Celebrity Baby Name Review
Petal Blossom Rainbow Oliver
On April 3, 2009, Jamie and Jools Oliver announced that Petal Blossom Rainbow has joined older sisters Daisy Boo and Poppy Honey as the third silly-name sister.
Although there's undoubtedly something charming about naming daughters after flowers, the combination the Olivers have thrown together suggests they're more interested in creating an over-the-top silly effect than anything else. (I know that blossoms have petals, but do petals have blossoms? I don't think so. So it appears that Blossom Petal would be a more sensible combination of names. But what's the connection of Rainbow to the Petal Blossom conundrum? I have no idea.)
Perhaps Jamie and Jools Oliver are trying for a celebrity baby-name lifetime-achievement award in the "What Were They Thinking?" category. At the moment, the Olivers' closest competition for the award comes from Frank and Gail Zappa (who named their four children: Moon Unit, Dweezil, Diva, and Ahmet) and Soleil Moon Frye and Jason Goldberg (who named their two daughters Jagger Joseph Blue and Poet Sienna Rose).
What were the Olivers, the Zappas, or Frye and Goldberg thinking? I have no idea.
My Verdict: Two thumbs down!
