We practice the Norse heathen religion, so we were looking for something meaningful from Old Norse, and we found Broddi, meaning silent intellectual. We didn't want him too singled out or burdened by his name, so we were set on Brodie, after the castle in Inverness, Scotland, when my mother suggested we have his middle name after the man who married us, an old family friend named Tim. We then had the dilemma of our son having a rhyming name when I found the more formal sounding Broden. Broden Timothy became our son.
