Charlotte Amalie ~ from the capital city of US Virgin Islands
We named our daughter born April 8, 2004, Charlotte Amalie. This name was special for several reasons. First, we were married 5 1/2 years ago in St. Thomas, USVI. The name of the city we were married in was the capital, Charlotte Amalie. Second, we have always loved the name Charlotte; it's a beautiful timeless name. Third, my husband is a big movie buff and we both like the french film Amelie.
So, when I became pregnant, Charlotte was actually a choice and he also suggested the name Amelie. And then it just occured to us where we were married--Charlotte Amalie! So, we decided to use that combination. I started doing some research on the name and discovered that the capital was named after a Danish queen named Charlotte Amalie--hence the Danish spelling instead of the French spelling Amelie. And my ancestors are from Denmark! How cool is that? So, her name is just special for so many different reasons!
