Kisses, kisses, kisses
by Darlene Ryan, Illustrated by Peter Manchester

Peter Manchester's textured images combine with the poetic words of Darlene Ryan to re-create moments of affection between babies and ourselves.

Kisses, kisses, kisses reveals how a look, a touch, a bit of play, or sharing a book, acts as a kind of kiss, connecting us in intimate ways with our babies.

Babies have many ways to make connections with us. They wiggle, coo, smile, cry, laugh, grasp our finger tightly, and look deep into our eyes.

Kisses, kisses, kisses encourages connecting with a child. Everyone who is part of a baby's life, both family - extended and blended - as well as friends, help teach the child about love, trust, and his or her place in the world.

This is a wonderful book for young children, beginning readers, parents and grandparents alike.

Books for Children and Families is a collection of seven picture books for young children and their parents. This collection draws on themes from Parenting for a Literate Community (PLC). PLC is a family literacy program for parents and children developed by the Early Years Literacy Research Group at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton. Books for Children and Families was written by literacy specialists in New Brunswick and beautifully illustrated by New Brunswick illustrators. In addition to easy-to-read words and engaging pictures for children, each book includes information to help parents recognize the many facets involved in learning to read such as talking with children, singing and dancing, putting away the groceries, counting and scribbling and drawing.

The audience for this collection is preschool and primary school children, their parents, and teachers. Each book also includes a list of related books available at free public libraries.

Drawing on the knowledge of authors, illustrators, mothers, and editors regarding quality children's literature and reading development, we have produced high quality books that:

• Support the emergent literacy development of young children through words and pictures.
• Honour and respect the literacies of the home.
• Provide information and support to parents in their role as a child's first teacher.

Research shows that repeated rhythmic language and familiar scenes are features that produce confident emergent readers and enable parents, who may be beginning readers themselves, to successfully share books with their children.

Each book focuses on a different aspect of literacy in the home and community context. Endnotes provide parents with examples of what they can do to encourage and extend their child's literacy learning.

The books in this collection are sold as a set of seven books for $22
(plus taxes, shipping and handling)
