Renowned
parenting author Elizabeth Pantley has done it again with a must-read
book for any parent suffering through sleepless nights. We know
that the bookstores are filled with books on infant sleep, but
hers is truly different. Until now, parents have been faced with
many variations of two basic options: let the baby "cry it out"
or learn to live with less sleep. Now a third alternative has
finally been presented, one that will help you gently teach your
child good sleep habits without long nights of crying.
Pantley's
method also differs from other leading sleep plans by being applicable
to all babies and toddlers, whether co-sleeping or crib-sleeping,
breastfed or bottle fed. Every family can benefit from her simple,
gentle suggestions for good sleep.
The
No-Cry Sleep Solution begins with guidelines for safe sleeping
conditions, whether you intend to co-sleep or use a crib. Pantley
then gives a simple explanation of how babies sleep, how much
sleep a typical child will need, and why babies wake so frequently.
Armed with this basic knowledge, the reader is ready for the bulk
of her book, a wonderful assortment of tips, strategies and plans
for helping your child sleep better at any age. She also includes
helpful pages to fill out your own personal sleep plan and log
your progress.
A crucial
difference between this book and so many other sleep plans on
the market is that this one does not promise quick results. Pantley
repeatedly emphasizes that her plan requires patience as it brings
about gradual change. Sixty "test mommies" implemented her ideas
and all of them saw progress, but it took 10-60 days for complete
success. If you are hoping for a solution that will work by tomorrow,
this is not the book for you. But if you desire to gently improve
your child's sleep and are willing to put in the necessary time
to teach your child good sleep habits, this book may well be your
lifesaver.
