The Road to Revolution!
by Stan Mack and Susan Champlin

Reviewed by S. Spangler (age 8)

Nick is an orphan street urchin who does what he has to do to survive. Penelope is honest and hard-working, and her father is a Boston businessman. Although they are different, both of them know that Revolution is coming and they support it. They decide to be spies to help the Patriots. They compare notes at Mullin's stable, where Nick works, as they can't do this at Penny's house because her father is way too friendly with the British. They find themselves in daring situations that need a lot of courage. Even though we know there was a Revolutionary War and how it ended, in the Road to Revolution!, we find out how many famous Americans helped both the Patriots and the Loyalists.

Even though the Revolutionary War was tragic, this book was funny and full of action! The book jacket says that the age limit was from 9-12, but an adult may enjoy it too! The format of the book is a comic book. The book prologue gives a lot of information, in only two pages! The epilogue also tells what really happened and what was added just for the story. This book is very well written and I think everyone will enjoy it.

My Rating:
Out of a possible 5 Stars = Stars!

Recommended for children ages 9-12
