Renew You: Sleek and Lean

Sleek and Lean is a fusion of pilates, ballet, yoga, dance and strength training which targets your core at all times. The result is a very effective workout that feels great!

The workout runs 70 minutes but the DVD is chaptered so it's quite easy to do the whole thing at one time or mix and match to create your own workout to suit your time allotment. The only equipment needed is a chair; a yoga mat would be helpful and comfortable but not required.

Tracey Mallett does the workout with two other women, one of whom does the modified version. They begin the workout with a warm up and revitalization via yoga done from your chair. This section runs about 7 minutes and sets the mood for the rest of the workout. It makes me feel fluid, graceful and ready for more.

The Ballet Bar section is next which runs about 15 minutes. Again, the chair is used as your ballet bar. Tracey calls these exercises "nice, small controlled movements" and while they may seem inconsequential, they definitely kick butt! You will feel these little moves in your glutes the next day.

From there, Tracey moves into the 14 minute Power Yoga section. She includes a very nice vinyasa that I love, but it can be difficult to get the correct position and alignment if you haven't done yoga before. Beginners can do the other sections without any additional training or explanation but this section would be difficult without prior yoga experience. I have enjoyed doing this section alone when I've been rushed for time, and I feel great but worked!

The abs and buns section is 20 minutes of Pilates type movements that are certain to cook your abs and buns. Tracey's expert cueing and form will help you get these small but vital exercises just right. In fact, there is a separate chapter on the DVD called bonus features which includes a section on Essential Form Abs Work. Tracey explains and shows in precise detail how to do ab work perfectly.

Upper Body Sculpt is 14 minutes of upper body and back exercises based on Pilates and Yoga. Your own body weight and a yoga mat is all you need. Again, some of these exercises may seem inconsequential but they are deceptively so as they will do amazing things for your body.

I have no doubt that done two or three times a week, you will notice an increase in your flexibility and strength in short period of time - something I'll be confirming soon! Tracey designed this workout for real people like us, and she's very personable and encouraging throughout.
