June 3, 2013: PARENTING TIP - Summer time scrapes and cuts
Parenting Tip ~ Ouch! With all the activity of Summer, falls and spills happen. Oftentimes, your child is more frightened by the blood from a cut or scrape than the pain of the injury. Keep a red washcloth close to your kitchen sink or wherever you usually clean up wounds. When you use a red washcloth, your child won't see how much blood is cleaned from the cut (a little bit frightens them). It's worked like a charm for us!

According to Mary Findley, oil and grease stains on the driveway are easy to clean up. "Kitty litter will absorb most of the oil and grease. Apply and use a brush to work it into the concrete. In the evening, pour on concentrated orange cleaner letting it set overnight. It pulls any oil or grease to the surface. Use old towels to absorb what you can and hose down." Make sure your child has plenty of healthy, non-sugary drinks to stay hydrated (water is best!) and offer simple healthy meals. Visit How to Deal With a Picky Eater for more suggestions.
