November 4, 2013: PARENTING TIP - How to Get Your Kid to Eat
"Feeding is a metaphor for the parent/child relationship overall," says Ellyn Satter, author of How to Get Your Kid to Eat ... But Not Too Much. Satter stresses her "Golden Rule" of parenting: parents are responsible for what is presented to eat and the manner in which it is presented. Children are responsible for how much or even whether they eat. Satter stresses ways to develop and maintain normal eating patterns from birth through adolescence, and provides solid information (and information on "solids") to both empower and relieve all parents worried about how their child eats. How to Get Your Kid to Eat . . . But Not Too Much is one of the most sensible and accessible books on childhood feeding on the market. Check it out!

November 5, 2013: HOME CARE TIP - Appliance Instructions
Did you get some new appliances for Christmas? Save those warranty cards and instruction booklets in a special place so you know where they are. If you have a filing cabinet with bills, create a special folder just for your appliance information. You'll never know when you'll need it, and when you do, you'll know exactly where it is.

November 6, 2013: RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS - Drug Free Babies Week
November 1 - 7 is Drug Free Babies Week. PLEASE participate or help develop programs to create public awareness of the dangers of maternal drinking and other drug use to fetal development. Babies damaged from prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol bring to the tasks of learning and behavior deficits that can impede success. November 8, 2013: PAMPERING TIP - Fall Energizing
With the days getting shorter, the reduction in sunlight can zap your energy. To recharge your batteries, try a 30 minute walk. If you can get outside, you'll feel better, but if not, 30 minutes of any exercise will help energize you ~ and keep you out of the refrigerator!

November 9, 2013: COUPLES TIP - Holding Hands
In the every day business of life, it's easy to forget the simple things. Holding hands while you're walking in the mall, strolling through the neighborhood, or even while you're sitting on the couch watching TV is a simple pleasure most couples forget. There's something very reassuring and comforting (and yes! loving) about holding hands with the one you love. So, don't forget to take your mate's hand and remember what it felt like the very first time you held hands!

November 11, 2013: PARENTING TIP - Pacifier Use
If you're planning to use a pacifier for your baby or if your baby uses one now, please visit the American Academy of Pediatrics' Thumb Sucking and Pacifiers. The AAP discusses how sucking thumbs or pacifiers are not harmful to babies; however, there are some important guidelines to follow such as not tying the pacifier to your baby's neck or wrist. It's VERY dangerous. The guidelines also discuss what types of pacifiers are best, when to discard them because of wear and tear and how to help your child stop using them at the appropriate time.

November 12, 2013: HOME CARE TIP - Cleaning For the Masses
You're hosting Thanksgiving and your house is a disaster. What do you do? First, relax and realize that they aren't coming to Martha Stewart's for dinner, so don't try to be Martha Stewart. If your house is really a disaster, then make a list of everything that you feel needs to be done in order of how important the task is. Work your way through that list and enlist your family to help you. Even little ones can help out. Tell yourself if the stuff way down on the list doesn't get done, it's no big deal. This is your holiday too and you need to enjoy it. Every room doesn't have to be spotless so focus on your kitchen, bathrooms (or the one the guests will use) and your dining area. Accept that everything doesn't have to be perfect, and you'll be amazed at what a special day you'll create for your guests AND yourself!

November 14, 2013: HEALTH TIP - PMS and Sugar
Recent studies show that too much refined sugar in your diet can exacerbate premenstrual syndrome. During the holidays, it's easy to overdo the desserts and goodies, but refined sugar is really BAAAAAAAAAD for you. Cut down or eliminate the refined sugar (sodas, desserts, candy, etc.) and you'll notice a tremendous improvement in your PMS. Your family will thank you!

November 18, 2013: PARENTING TIP - Have you read to your child today?
Have you read to your child today? It doesn't matter if your child is an hour old or 17, if you want to raise a reader, read to your kids! The sound of your voice, no matter what you're reading, will be soothing to your child. Reading time will be an intimate time for bonding that your little sweetie will always remember. So pick up a book or magazine (my hubby read AutoWeek to my babies) and start your child on the path to being a terrific reader.

November 19, 2013: HOME CARE TIP - Scummy bathtub mats
Is your rubber bathtub mat getting scummy? The next time you wash towels, toss your mat in with them. The fabric of the towels will scrub the mat as the load agitates. When the load is done, toss the towels in your dryer and hang your mat on a rod to dry.

You never know when you'll be in need of their services.

November 21, 2013: HEALTH TIP - Pearly Whites
Beautiful white teeth are an important part of everyone's smile. If your teeth aren't as white as you'd like, there's a few things you can try. Cut down on coffee and tea which can darken your teeth. There are also several toothpastes on the market claiming to whiten your teeth. You might have some success with these but be careful. If you're really serious about whitening your teeth, ask your dentist about bleaching. I tried this and was very pleased! Visit Dental Zone's article on teeth bleaching for very helpful information.

November 28, 2013: HEALTH TIP - Fast Food Facts
You're whirling through the holiday season and it's difficult to find the time to cook healthy meals. It seems so easy to drive through Taco Bell or Jack in the Box. Or maybe you hit Boston Market thinking a Chicken Carver sandwich is healthier. Did you know there's 640 calories and 29 grams of fat in a Chicken Carver sandwich? Ouch! But if you order it without the sauce or cheese, it's 430 calories with a healthy 4.5 grams of fat. to find out the nutritional value of your favorite fast foods. It may make you rethink that fast drive through easy meal!

November 29, 2013: PAMPERING TIP - DEstress Yourself
Thanksgiving is over, and you're feeling totally stressed out. Once the meal is over and the cleanup is done, take care of you! Stress is unhealthy and you deserve to be good to yourself with the advent of the holiday season. Remember to smile often and find at least one thing that happened to you each day. Laugh a lot - laughter is a great destressor. Soak in the tub with lots of bubbles and candles. Remember to breathe - inhale deeply and exhale fully. Sigh a lot - this is another great destressor. Take care of yourself and you'll have a more pleasant and enjoyable holiday season (and so will your family!).

November 30, 2013: COUPLES TIP - Christmas Shopping
Christmas Shopping can be a real chore. If your mate usually does most of the shopping, offer to do a few hours. Or perhaps both of you can do some of it together and have lunch out while you're shopping. Try to share in the chores this month so no one gets too stressed out. This is a good month to be extra gentle and considerate of each other.
