You've Gone to Far Away From Me
a sonnet by Celia Straus
You've gone too far, too far away from me
Who used to measure joy within my heart.
Subtracted by the time we were apart.
By adding up the times your smile I'd see
You were my night, my day, my dawn, my dusk
I shared my hopes, my dreams, my inner fears
With you for there was no one else to trust
And now I'm left alone with all my tears
Tear down the bright blue sky; dismiss the sun
Replace sweet starry night with clouds and rain
For 'til we meet again my very life is done
I cannot find myself in all this pain.
There is but one solution my dearest love
And that is to be together once again.
Celia wrote this for a lovely woman whose husband is deployed
in Iraq. She gave us a copy as a gift to any of you who are also
missing someone you love. Thank you, Ceila.
