Childbirth Cubby

Meet Cubby Moderator Kathleen!

Kathleen and JamesHi! My name is Kathleen. My husband and I are the proud parents of three wonderful children: a girl - age 6; and two boys - ages 4 and 2! We also have one furry member of our family: our kitty, Mio, who is now 13 years old!

I have been interested in pregnancy and childbirth for as far back as I can remember. I am the oldest of five siblings, and I have vivid recollections of my mother being pregnant for my youngest two brothers. I can still remember sitting down with her and feeling my youngest brother kicking away! While I was growing up, my mother had a 1960's era book on childbirth that my sister and I looked at quite often. It was pretty graphic for that era, but thinking back now, I have to laugh at some of what I recall having read and seen in the pictures. We've come a long way since then!

As an adult, I am still keenly interested in childbirth and its related issues. I have delivered three babies, and all three deliveries and experiences were quite different from one another. My first delivery had some complications due to Group B Strep, but I was able to deliver my beautiful daughter vaginally with the help of a much needed epidural. As a result of the complications during my first delivery, I went to the hospital too early during my second labor, and my labor was subsequently augmented with pitocin. Once I had the "pit," my labor went very quickly, however, and my son was born after two hours of active labor . . . without having had an epidural. My third delivery was wonderful and perfect in every way, and you can click here to read my son's birth story.

My husband and I are not planning to have anymore children, so being able to moderate this cubby is a lovely way for me to still stay in touch with something that I have always enjoyed so much. And it's a lovely way to live vicariously through others! I hope you enjoy your stay here! Happy birthing! smile
