Sex After Childbirth
by Barbara Parker, RN, ARNP, CNM

Q. I had an episiotomy with my son. I am 3 1/2 weeks postpartum, and I am feeling relatively well. Do I have to wait six weeks before having sex with my husband? Or could it harm things if I "jump" into things.

A. No, it won't hurt anything, but I have two things to remind you of--first, if it DOES hurt, don't do it! Second, don't forget about birth control!!

Also (I guess there are really 3 things . . .) use lubricant generously--I really think Astroglide works best!
