C-Sections Cubby

C-Section Healing
by Barbara Parker, RN, ARNP, CNM

Q. I had a c-section (bikini cut but vertically internal) and the outside has healed but I still have some numbness right in the middle from my belly button to my pubic bone. Every once in a while when I stretch or sit up out of bed, I feel a "tingling" sensation or like a "pulling" internally. Could I be causing damage? I'm worried about scar tissue and am afraid I'm not healing properly. At my 6 week checkup, the OB said my uterus was back to normal size, and my incision looked great but how would he know about the internal?

A. What you are feeling is completely normal. The numbness may stay for up to a year or even more. The "pulling" sensation is just the scar--you can't hurt yourself or pull it apart, but you will have sensations like that if you stretch it.
