Cloth Diaper Poll ~ Page 2
~ An Attachment Parenting Message Board Archive

From Mamax3:
  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? 6 months old and 2 years old. Began CDing about 2 1/2 months ago. I love it! Can't believe I ever used disposable.

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? Full time. I never want to use disposable again!

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? Environmental concerns and it is cheaper!

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? Fitteds (Motherease One size and Motherease Sandy's)

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? Motherease

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? Motherease

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? I have several faves . . . Motherease, Bummis Super Snap and Re Uz'm Snap covers

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? I use Motherease doublers at night in the dipes. I use regular wash cloths (the ones you can buy at Walmart or Sam's Club that are like 40 in a pack) for wipes.

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? Dry pail if all diapers are just wet but once one is poopy, I dunk it in the toilet to get the loose poop off then my dry pail becomes a wet pail with cold water for soaking until it's time to wash.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? www.motherease.com and www.greenmountaindiapers.com

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? I have 38 diapers and 13 covers, I do laundry everyday. I am about to order 24 more diapers and about 8 more covers (remember I am diapering 2)

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? The only thing I would have done differently would be to have used cloth since my 4 year old was born.

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? My friend Alicia and fellow LLL members.

From katgirl67:

  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? Max will be 5 months next week. We started around 3 weeks ago part time and just went full time.

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? Full time as of yesterday!

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? Reason #1 is environmental: reduce, reuse, recycle! But I've found that they actually work better than disposables, too.

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? All in ones only.

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? Nighttime we are using fuzzibunz with a doubler. Daytime we use fuzzibunz or reuzm.

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? too early to tell

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? too early to tell

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? We just started using a doubler at night.

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? Since Max is BF, nothing smells. We just toss them in a dedicated laundry basket for now.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? Need to rave about greenmountaindiapers.com . . . I bought some AIO's a day before they went on sale and she made sure I got the sale price. Also got them REALLY fast. Will buy from her again.

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? 12 - every other day

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? I'm pretty happy with where I am, but I am really new at this.

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? Not yet. (See how optimistic I am!) Most of my friends and family think I am completely insane anyway.

From lark:

  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? DD's 7 months old and we just started a few weeks ago.

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? So far, part time, but I'm going to try full-time and see what happens.

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? I just couldn't stand throwing all those disposables away anymore. When I caught myself trying to throw fewer away by changing dd less often, I knew I had to switch.

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? We've got prefolds and all-in-ones.

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? So far I like prefolds with Dappi pull-ons for naptime and All Together all-in-ones when she's awake and I can change her more often. I like the All Togethers because the fit is nearly as trim as disposables. I have a Bummis velcro and a Prorap, but I think they're a bit too big for her, plus they seem uncomfortably stiff around the waist when I pull them tight enough not to gap at the legs. I've been using disposables at night so far, but I'm going to take the plunge tonight and try a doubler (waddlehopper from Katie's Kisses) with a prefold and see how it goes. Dd sleeps 12 hours at a time, so I'm not too optimistic.

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? I like the unbleached Chinese prefolds and I'm fairly happy with the All Together all-in-ones although they're not super-absorbent (I got a great deal on them though -- $50/dozen)

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? I like Proraps better than Bummis, but lately I like plain old Dappi pull-ons the best.

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? I made some fleece liners which work great to catch poos, I have some simple cloth wipes that I keep in a Pampers wipes box with a little baby bath and baby oil, and I just bought some Waddlehoppers doublers but haven't tried them yet.

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? One dry pail, shake poos off fleece liners and throw in with diapers. Laundry every other day. Cold water soak and prewash with Tide All Clear and 1/4 cup baking soda. Hot water wash with Tide and vinegar in second rinse. Works great. I've never had any stains or lingering smells.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? Katie's Kisses is great. I've also had great service from All Together, Bareware, and California Babestuff.

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? I have 12 prefolds, one Bummis SIWW, one Prorap, 4 Dappi pull-ons, and 12 all-in-ones. Wash every other day.

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? I wouldn't bother with the wrap covers. Prefolds with Snappis and pull-ons work well -- no leaks and inexpensive. But I'm glad I tried a bunch of different things in order to find out what I liked. I'll keep the wrap covers. Maybe when dd grows into them a little more I'll like them better.

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? Not a single person. That's why I'm so happy to have met all of you here

From OregonMama:

  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? He is 3 months old and has been in cloth since birth.

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? He is in cloth all the time except one disposable per night. I don't know why, but I've always been a bit leery about using a cloth at night. Either way, that's only 30-31 disposables per month.

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? For both environmental and health-related reasons. I personally believe disposables are bad for baby if they wear them all the time.

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? Prefolds, with a mixture of dappi and Gerber covers.

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? Diaper Service prefolds, dappi covers, Huggies Supreme at night.

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? Dunno . . . we just use the ones the service provides. With my dd, we washed all hers, and used the ones you buy in the store. We still have them and they're in great shape.

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? Dappi and Gerber

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? We use a mixture of washrag wipes and Huggies wipes.

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? Upstairs in his room, I have 2 pails: 1 for cloth and 1 for disposables. Downstairs in our changing area, I have the pail that the service provided us with, which cloth-only goes into. On pickup day I just grab the upstairs and downstairs cloth bags and throw them on the porch.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? Never bought online

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? We go through 40 cloth diapers per week, and I have 9 covers total that I use.

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? No, I like my system just fine!

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? I know NO ONE who uses cloth, and everyone who hears I do it compliments me on how "hard" it must be. Heck, it's easy! The only people I know who cloth diapered were my parents!! And that was 25 years ago!

From t.anger:

  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? He's 11 months, started at 2 months.

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? Part-time. We use disposables at night and in our summer-house etc.

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? Better for baby, cheaper, better for environment.

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? Prefolds

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? We use prefolds with Diaperaps-covers in daytime and disposable Pampers or Pampers Easy Up Pants at night.

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? I have no idea! We got our prefolds hands down from my SO's parents. I have no clue what brand it is.

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? We bought Diaperaps because we found them cheap in an outlet-store. We have only tried two other (small Swedish) brands beside them and they were not as good. Bumpy from Imse Vimse is the most popular brand in Sweden but we have never tried them.

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? We use liners and cloth wipes.

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? Mostly we just throw the diapers right in to the machine and dry pile them in there. When it's poo we rinse them first. We wash every 2-3 days hot with environmental friendly detergents but no bleach or softeners. Then we line them dry.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? I have never bought online.

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? We have 24 diapers and 5-6 covers. We are in desperate need of more covers!

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? If I had the money to buy anything I want I would want to try wool covers and fitted diapers. Right now I'm searching for some kind of "pull on" kind of covers because my son prefers to stand up when we change him. But otherwise I'm satisfied with the Diaperaps. They are thin and we never had a leak!

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? I know two moms who use them for their babies. Also Tobias' parents and aunt used cloth for their youngest children.

From oz's mommy:

  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? He's 20 months now. He wore disposables for the first few days after birth (we were scared of the looks of that first black tarry poo!) I had a c-section so dh was also doing the diapers how he learned at the hospital. At first we used wraps with only doublers - he was so teeny!

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? Full time, but we'll use a few disposables if we're going out.

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? Hinney-friendly, environmentally friendly . . . they're so soft and natural! I love the feel of them, and can only imagine ds preferring them on his hinney!

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? Fitted (pre-folds when we run out)

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? Fitted diaper during the day, fitted diaper with a doubler at night. And add a polar fleece liner if he has any diaper rash.

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? Spoil-Me SnuggleBottoms from Baby Bunz, also their doublers. And a few ME doublers. I like the one ME fitted we have - but they're so pricey!

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? Imse Vimse Bumpy Night . . . absolutely! I wish I had found them first!!

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? Paper liners sometimes, doublers at night, some cloth wipes

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? Rinse each, toss in a Rubbermaid pail with no lid. Wash twice, using "friendly" soap, double rinse on the last wash, dry in the dryer, occasionally out on the line.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? Baby Bunz, BareWare, EarthBaby, Behind Baby

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? We had about 3 dozen diapers, but after over a year's usage, they started to disintegrate. Now we have about 2 dozen old ones and 30 new ones. We had 5 Imse Vimse Bumpy's and 1 Bummi, but they are getting replaced also.

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? More diapers--maybe a dozen more of each size to start. More covers so they'd last longer. More cloth wipes, and use homemade wipes from the start.

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? I have 2 friends that cloth diaper - I think they "caught" it from me! They are both old friends.

From littlebit:

  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? 11 weeks, CD'd since day 3

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? full time

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? I don't want anything but natural fabric on his bottom.

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? All of the above.

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? Daytime, we do prefolds and Bummis Snap covers or fitteds with covers. Nighttime, I add a fleece liner and an extra prefold. He's not a terribly heavy wetter, and he can sleep through a change when I feed him so I feel ok with our current nighttime system. I was going to try Fuzzibunz, but haven't heard such great reviews since the initial hoopla over them.

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? I like the kissaluvs and Lisa at Cloud Nine makes a great fitted.

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? The Bummis Snap Covers have worked well for us so I haven't gotten into anything else. But I'd like to get some Motherease stuff with our rebate check from the IRS in a few weeks.

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? I made my own fleece liners and use cloth wipes from Cloud Nine, as well as some baby washcloths for wipes. Doublers too.

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? I separate covers from diapers/wipes/liners and wash my covers by hand and line dry them. I wash diapers/liners/wipes on hot with All Free and Clear, second rinse with vinegar and lemon essence drops, and line dry.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? cloudnine.com, borntolove.com

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? 6 dozen prefolds, 6 velcro Bummis Covers, 6 Snap Bummis Covers, 20 Fitteds, a few AIOs. I wash about every four days.

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? No, I think our system is pretty good.

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? Just one, CatherineS who moderates a few boards here.
