Cloth Diaper Poll ~ Page 3
~ An Attachment Parenting Message Board Archive

From Hannahsmom:
  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? She is 12 months, started at 10 months.

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? Full time, although we use disposable when traveling.

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? It started due to the gel in disposables, then I got Tushies to try as they're gel free, then I went to cloth. Not to mention the environmental benefits.

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? Fitted only

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? I love Poochies with prorap cover but I also have kissaluvs, zippidy's, one unknown I got on auction and puddlecatchers are my all time fav for nighttime, I only have 1 though I also have on ME side snap cover that I would like to get more of.

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? Poochies and Puddlecatchers

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? Prorap and ME

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? We use doublers when going out and overnight (except for the puddlecatcher) and I use fleece liners.

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? I actually use a 5 gallon bucket with a lid, dry. All poops get shook off or rinsed, then all of them go in the bucket. I wash every 2 days, hot soak with oxi-clean (if we have poops) then cold wash with All Free & Clear, and rinse, vinegar in the first rinse every 3-4 washes, second cold rinse with 3 drops of tea tree oil.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? I love wahmall.com, also diaperdance.com and ebay.

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? Gosh, I am afraid to count -- probably 13 covers and 25 or so fitteds. I have two AIO that I have never used.

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? I wouldn't have bought babykins and would have got more poochies.

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? No. I know moms that have but their kids are out of diapers.

From Sallly:

  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? She is 8 months now, but I started using cloth when she was about 2 months. I started whenever I discovered this board!!!

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? We did do it full time, but she kept leaking through the diapers at night so now we use disposables at night.

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? Because they are fun . . .duh

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? We own all of the above, but we prefer and use prefolds.

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? For the day we use BSWW with prefold diapers from greenmountaindiapers.com for night we use disposables.

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? see above

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? see above

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? We use fleece liners because they help keep the poopie out and we use some old baby wash cloths as cloth wipes.

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? Take the diaper off baby, throw in pail, empty pail into washer and wash on cold with Arm & Hammer Free detergent and A&H washing soda, do an extra rinse, remove covers from washer, wash diapers again in hot water with A&H detergent and a Downy ball full of vinegar, extra rinse, toss 'em in the dryer or set them in the sun!

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? greenmountaindiapers.com and www.organicbebe.com

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? Approximately 24 diapers in use, but we have 24 toddler size to use in the future; we have 9 covers.

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? I would not have wasted my time or money on AIO's, fitted diapers, or FUZZI BUNZ!

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? Don't know any

From luv2beemom:

  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? Fox is 12 weeks and Rachel is 3 years (she only wears diapers at night). We started using cloth about 2 months ago.

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? Part time only because we don't have a large enough supply to go full-time. Even if we did, he'd probably be in disposables at the babysitter's and for trips to the mall, restaurants, etc. Rachel, as I said, only wears diapers at night, and it's always a cloth diaper.

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? I would love to say it's for the environment, but if it was we would have cd'd Rachel. I have to admit it's purely in an effort to cut expenses. For Rachel, though, it was prompted by a skin irritation.

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? Prefolds, although we have a few used Kissaluvs

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? Fox: wears pre-folds with covers during day and disposable at night (don't have a trusted cloth nighttime system for him yet). Rachel: doesn't need diapers during the day. At night she wears some mighty big prefolds with Gerber vinyl pants.

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? I have tried snuggle-ups and hope to own some of my own soon, and I like Kissaluvs, too.

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? I have a few covers. My favorite is a Nikky cotton wrap, then my Bummis wraps, then my Bumkins vented wrap.

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? No, although I did buy Snappi fasteners which I love!

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? My current routine, though I plan to make some changes: all diapers go into a pail lined with a mesh bag which then gets washed with the diapers. I don't do any rinsing at that time. When diapers go into the washer, I run them on a full wash cycle with cold water and no detergent. Then, I run them with detergent on a heavy duty cycle with hot water, cold rinse. Then I put them in the dryer for a really long time!

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? This is what I've used so far without complaint: greenmountaindiapers.com and WAHMall.com auctions

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? Approximately 2 dozen pre-folds, 2 Bummis wraps, 1 Bummis snap wrap, 1 Nikky cotton wrap, 1 Bumkins vented wrap, 1 Gerber wrap, about 4 Kissaluvs, 3 toddler sized Gerber vinyl pants

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? I would have done it a lot sooner! But I like the way I'm slowly building my supply and trying an assortment of different things.

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? Only my sister

From JKY:

  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? Mondo is 4 1/2 months and we have been using cloth since about two months. (Would have started sooner but my mom bought us a bunch of disposables when he was born.)

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? Full time

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? Mainly do not like the gel/residue on his skin; also environmental reasons.

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? Prefolds

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? Daytime--a prefold folded in three inside velcro cover; at night add a smaller prefold folded into sixths at the front (the "big crotch baby")

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? So far I have only bought one brand - the chinese prefolds from alternativebaby.com

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? Polar babies

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? Not so far

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? Dry pail, one complete cycle with just cold water, then one with hot water and all free and clear, then a cycle with cold water and vinegar, then one last cold cycle to get all the soap out (I think I need a new washer) then bag the wet (and they are sopping) diapers and put them in the stroller, Mondo in his sling, and walk over to the laundromat to use the dryer (I definitely need a new dryer).

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? Have only used alternativebaby.com. Very pleased with product and service (they came almost immediately.)

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? Two dozen diapers, wash every other day. About five - six covers, wash them by hand as they need it, and then throw them in a load of wash every few days or so.

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? I would not have bothered with diaper service. If we hadn't used it for 6-7 weeks I would have used the money to buy more diapers.

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? Our town is pretty conscious this way. Most of my friends do not have young diaper age children right now but most of us cloth-diapered our older kids at least part of the time. Most of the ladies in my baby-n-me yoga class seemed to be cloth diapering. Now that that's over, maybe we will start a mom's group and I'll get to know some people with young babies like mine!

From CatherineS:

  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? Jonathan is 23 months, and we started using cloth with him when he was around 8 or 9 months. Hannah is 7 weeks and we've been using cloth with her since birth.

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? We CD'd Jonathan part time (disposables at night and when we went out for long periods of time) until Hannah was born. Now we CD full time for both!

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? To save money, less waste, better for my kids, plus I'm a cloth diaper junkie

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? We have all of the above

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? Jonathan ~ Daytime - Prefolds with Imse Vimse Bumpy covers. Nighttime - Toddler Prefolds with Imse Vimse Bumpy Covers or Fuzzy Bunz covers. Hannah ~ Daytime - Snuggle-ups with Hemp doublers and Gerber EZ wraps as well as Imse Vimse Bumpy covers. Nighttime - Flannel and Hemp inserts with the Fuzzy Bunz

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? Really like Motherease but they make Jonathan very bubble-bottom-ish! We use prefolds from Weebees with him. We really like the Snuggle-ups for Hannah.

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? With a BIG hooray, Imse Vimse Bumpys. I've tried *several* other covers and these win big time! For the quality and how long they continue to fit (Jonathan has had the same ones since he was 8-9 months old and he has gained around 10 lbs and they still fit great!!), they are well worth the money.

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? We use hemp doublers, terry doublers, used to use Kushies disposable liners but don't anymore, and we use flannel cloth wipes.

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? We do a load once every day (with Hannah's and Jonathan's it is usually a good size) and we just keep a dry pail.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? Californiababestuff.com, TheBabylane.com, Weebees.com, Jardinediapers.com, Hannahsgeneration.com and Sunflowerbabies.com

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? Not sure how many diapers total we have, but we have about 1 dozen prefolds for Jonathan and a few contour diapers. He has about 8 or so covers total (different brands). For Hannah we have 6 snuggle ups and then some plushies. We have about 8 covers for her too, and 2 Fuzzybunz. We wash every day.

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? I would not have bought the Rainbow diapers for Jonathan. If we even want to used them we have to use two for absorbency. I would've skipped the cheaper covers and bought more Imse Vimse Bumpys. I would not have bought the plushies for Hannah and would've bought more snuggle-ups. I'd like to buy more hemp liners. Maybe would've skipped the AIO's but I'm not sure

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? Yes, I have met the majority of my IRL friends (in general) online first, then IRL. The few friends I know that cloth diaper I met online first.

From kendallsmom:

  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? With dd at 12 months, the new one will get cloth as soon as we return from the hospital.

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? environmental, cost, chemicals in the diapers

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? Prefolds and a couple aio's for the diaper bag. For the new baby I got an awesome deal on some barely used aio's 20 dipes for 20 dollars!

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? Day--prefolds and bumkins covers, night-prefolds and fuzzi bunz. Wish i could afford to use fuzzi bunz exclusively.

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? I'd like to try the snug to fit fitteds.

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? Mumkins practically never leak but bummis sww fits dd better (but the velcro's too easy for her) Need more snap covers.

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? gerber ez liners. Tried cloth wipes but just couldn't get used to them.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? jardine diapers, got everything quickly. wahmall.com

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? 24 prefolds, have 36 but my pail isn't big enough, 8 covers and 2 fuzzibunz. wash every 2 days.

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? Buy only 24 rather than 36 prefolds, try several different covers.

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? Only one, she's just an acquaintance really. well, she says she cd's but i've never seen her son in them?!

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? I use fitteds. (Mother-Ease, with their air-flow covers.) I also have one Kushies AIO's, and some Kushies prefolds.

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? Diaper pail filled with water and Amaze. Wet diapers into the pail directly, poop diapers rinsed in toilet, then into pail. If there aren't a lot of diapers, I empty the water and refill with fresh solution, then put more in the next day. Cold water prewash, hot water wash with normal detergent, and a double rinse. Line dry.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? Ebay.

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? I have 12 fitteds, 6 prefolds and one AIO. I wash every other day so far.

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? I just started, and the only thing I wish I could change is starting so late. I wish I'd started sooner

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? I know one lady at my church who cloth diapers, and it really made an impression on me about a month ago. Then I discovered this AP forum, and well, the rest is history

From ATSG:
  1. How old is your baby, and when did you start using cloth? Almost 6 months. About 3 and a half weeks ago

  2. Do you CD full time or part time? Full-time

  3. Why do you use cloth diapers? Thought it was better for DS--he was outgrowing the disposables too fast and they left marks on him

  4. Do you use prefolds, fitteds, all-in-ones, all of the above? Primarily fitteds, but I have a dozen chinese prefolds as back-up

  5. What are your favorite daytime and nighttime systems? Daytime--anything really. Nighttime, either Under the Nile or Sandy's with the Aristocrat wool soaker or Imse Vimse Night cover

  6. What are your favorite brands in diapers? I really really really like the Sandy's. The Under the Nile are nice too and the Snug-to-Fits.

  7. What are your favorite brands in covers? For nighttime the Aristocrat and probably the Bummis (I only have 6 covers)

  8. Do you use any other accessories, such as liners, doublers, cloth wipes etc? I have some liners/doublers, and I bought a yard of fleece and cut it up to keep DS's bottom dry. Without them, he was getting creases all over his butt and it was constantly saturated- the fleece really keeps his butt dry

  9. Briefly describe your diaper pail/laundry procedure? Dry pail. I bought a garbage can with a snap lid and I have a nylon washable tote that goes in and when the bag's full, I throw it in along with my diapers and line dry it. If DS poops, I throw it in the bathtub, put some generic Target brand soap on it and use a scrub brush and the shower nozzle (with scalding water) to scrub it out before I put it in the pail.

  10. What are a few of your favorite places to buy diapering supplies on-line? katieskisses (got everything very quickly and everything was reasonably priced), earthbaby, motherease (took a lot longer than the other places to get my diapers).

  11. Approximately how many diapers and covers do you have, and how often do you wash? I have 1 AIO (haven't even used yet- it's in the diaper bag for emergencies), 12 chinese prefolds, and 26 fitteds. I have 6 covers (2 night and 4 day)

  12. Knowing what you do now, would you change anything if you were starting over in cloth . . . buy different quantities, brands, types of diapers, different pail, etc? YES! I would buy all Sandy's and Snug-to-Fits. I would keep the Under the Niles. I would and WILL buy at least 1 more Aristocrat.

  13. Do you know many other parents in real life who cloth diaper? Where did you meet them? DEFINITELY NOT!! I don't know anyone using cloth right now. In fact, my family is giving me grief over it. My mom always says, 'Who would have thought that out of 3 daughters, you would be the one to turn in to Mother Earth!' (Because we co-sleep, hold DS all the time, just recently got a sling, don't let him CIO ever and use cloth diapers.) Neither of my sisters did ANY of these!
