Crafts for Kids

August 2004 Project of the Month #1
Kid's Activities Basket

Do you know a mom-to-be who is planning to breastfeed her baby, but has an older child that will need her time and attention, too? Ask your child to help you put together this activities basket for her older son or daughter. It will help keep her other little one busy and happy when she's got her hands full. It makes a great big brother or sister gift!

Below is a photo of a sample activities basket. Try to include things that the child can do on their own, or that mom can help with one-handed. We've included:

  • Search-and-find books, activity books, sticker books
  • Paper, washable markers and crayons
  • Little toys that stay in the basket, and only come out when Mom is busy nursing, making them special
  • Healthy snacks, just in case the older sibling decides s/he's hungry, too!

And we have lots more ideas! Check out our hot topic thread for this month: Ideas for Older Child's Activities Basket. We will compile these ideas at the end of this month and add them to this page. If you have more ideas to add, please join us on that thread, or e-mail your ideas to us.

Do you have an idea for another Project of the Month for our Crafts for Kids Cubby? We'd love to hear from you. Email our moderators with your suggestions!
