Leg Cramps
By Barbara Parker, RN, ARNP, CNM

Q. What is the best thing to relieve leg cramps at night. They are killing me!

A. First, be sure you are getting enough calcium in your diet--if you're not a milk drinker, take a couple of tums a day.

Second, eat some fruit--that helps your potassium--bananas are especially good, but so are tomatoes, potatoes (yes I know that's a veggie), and apricots.

Third, don't wear stockings that are constrictive at all--you want clear circulation to those tootsies!!

And when the cramps occur--NEVER point your toes--flex your toes TOWARD your nose!
