Cynthia FlynnTylenol 3 Use During Pregnancy
by Cynthia Flynn, CNM, Ph.D.

Q. I have had horrible migraines since becoming pregnant. Finally, they got so bad I called my doctor, and she prescribed tylenol 3. I took one last night and now I'm scared. Is tylenol 3 safe during pregnancy?

A. Tylenol 3 is a narcotic, so you wouldn't want to use more than necessary. Used in small doses, it is very effective at solving your problem without much documented harm to the baby.

Until the end of pregnancy, I usually try a Motrin and a Mountain Dew for headaches, and have had pretty good luck. When they don't work, or at the end of pregnancy, T3 is a useful option.

Hope you feel better soon!
