Sciatic Nerve Pain
by Donna Harvel Balo ARNP, CNM, MS

Donna BaloQ. I have been having horrible shooting pain from the top of me "rear" to my calf (right side only). How can I get rid of it or is there anything I can do?

A. A visit or several to a chiropractor, massage therapist or physical therapist often helps. If referred by your provider, many insurance companies (including Medicaid) will pay for the visits.

Also try to figure out if there is anything that sets off the pain. I realized for myself, that when I sat on the floor with my legs spread, wrapping presents, cutting out patterns etc, it really caused problems with my sciatica.

Good luck. I know it's painful. Talk to your careprovider about it so you can work together on a solution.
