Barbara Parker, RN, ARNP, CNM
Family Nurse Practitioner

Barbara Parker, RN, ARNP, CNM, is a Family Nurse Practitioner. FNPs are primary health care providers who take care of family members quite literally all through their lives. In Barbara's practice, she provides prenatal care, sees infants, children, adolescents and adults. She may see acute illnesses and injuries (yes, stitches and broken bones) and manage chronic illness in older adults. She sees a great many women for their annual exams, do well-child checkups, etc. Barbara works in collaboration with four physicians, two Physician Assistants and one other FNP.

Barbara went back to school for an extra year of post graduate work to be able to certify as a nurse midwife because "That was the one thing that FNPs didn't do--deliver babies. FNPs focus on wellness and prevention, and I do lots of women's health -- paps, physicals, etc. I am also a clinical instructor in the Family Nurse Practitioner program for the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, so I teach there in the classroom, as well as having students with me in my office setting for their clinical experiences."

She says, "It is my goal as a practitioner, to provide the best possible health care for my clients, and to encourage them to have as healthy a life as they desire to have."
