Exercise During Twin Pregnancy
By Lisa Stone, ACE

Q. Is it okay to work out when you are expecting twins? I am 23 weeks and work out daily, but it is getting harder and harder everyday.

A. This is definitely something that you need to discuss with your caregiver. I will tell you that one of my Fit For 2 instructors is pregnant with twins (this is her 2nd pregnancy - she also has a 2 1/2 yr old) and is due in early September. She is still going strong, but we have an understanding (and her midwife is part of this, too) that she is to let me know when teaching gets to be too strenuous and she is to call me if she doesn't feel up to teaching on a given day.

You really need to evaluate how you're feeling each day and decide whether or not to workout that day. Maybe you can tailor your workouts to fit your energy level - a short walk on low-energy days, a water aerobics class on mid-energy days, a step and sculpt class on high-energy days. And, maybe it's time to cut back to 3 or 4 workouts per week instead of 5-7.
