Stretching During Pregnancy
By Lisa Stone, ACE

Q. I heard that excessive stretching can be harmful to the baby. If so, what is excessive?

A. Stretching is great to continue throughout pregnancy with a few precautions. First, only take each stretch to the point of feeling it - never overstretch your muscles because you can cause injury. Second, continue to breathe throughout each stretch -never hold your breath. Third, hold each stretch for 15-30 seconds - never bounce during a stretch.
