Past President of DONA International
Ann Grauer, past president of DONA International, has dedicated her career to working and volunteering in the doula community, emerging as a globally recognized doula expert. DONA International is the world's oldest and largest doula association.
Ann is also a leading consultant on implementing hospital and community-based birth and postpartum doula programs. She designed Wisconsin's first hospital-based doula program at the Birth Place at Columbia Center in Milwaukee, where she is a parent educator and coordinator of the hospital's doula program. She was instrumental in designing and implementing New England's first postpartum doula initiative, Hearts and Hands Doula Service, in western Massachusetts and Kaiser Permanent Health System's East Coast postpartum doula program.
Ann has been a birth and postpartum doula since 1989 and has served as a parent educator in both Wisconsin and Massachusetts, teaching about such topics as healthy pregnancy and newborn care to infant massage and breastfeeding.
Ann is a charter member of DONA International and a member of Lamaze International, International Childbirth Education Association and International Loving Touch Foundation. She has formerly served as a peer facilitator and steering committee member for the Mothers' Center of Milwaukee and has authored articles in Lamaze Pregnancy Magazine, International Doula and The International Journal of Childbirth Education. She is a sought-after speaker, delivering lectures at the Lamaze International Conference; the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; the DONA International Conference; Partners in Perinatal Health Annual Conference: and La Leche League of Wisconsin State Conference.
