Aberlee's Pregnancy Journal

Aberlee
StorkNet is very pleased to bring you Aberlee's pregnancy journal.

Aberlee (23) and her husband, Andrew (25), are a military family (Army) living far away from their families. They decided to start trying for their first baby in June in hopes of delivering before Andrew is deployed in Summer 2009. Luckily, they conceived right away and their first baby is due around March 20, 2009.

Join Aberlee as she takes us through her first pregnancy week by week.

Week 21
~ Good News and Then Some

Lucky for me, Andrew was able to get the day off to come to the doctor with me today. We arrived early and ended up waiting a good hour before we were able to be seen because they somehow managed to lose my chart. After sitting and hearing the staff talk about it, someone found it (accidentally placed in another room). Not so comforting to know it was out there floating around. On a good note, my blood pressure was good and I gained about 12 pounds since our last appointment, which was a huge jump for me.

Our doctor was training someone so he did measurements and then she would do them to make sure all of his were correct. I wish I would have known prior to him walking in that he would be assisting at the appointment. It threw me off to have a man asking me questions about my pregnancy who has not been a part of it thus far. Our doctor is so nice and explained everything to him (which helped us to know more) that I couldn't be upset with her for not informing us ahead of time. Our baby's heart rate is 150, which we were told is very good. All of my measurements seem to be great and our due date was moved up a day to 20 March.

When we moved from the room into her office she reviewed everything from our ultrasound a week ago and all is wonderful! The heart is great and everything is developing as should be. That was very comforting news to hear. But then, we received some not-so-comforting news. Our testing done over a month ago shows we have a 3% chance of the baby being born with Down Syndrome. Our doctor is sending us to a specialist to have a level 2 ultrasound done so our baby can be seen in 3D. The appointment will be made for sometime next week. If the specialist cannot see anything clearly from the ultrasound, I will have to have amniocentesis to find out for sure. Andrew is nervous about all this changing so quickly, but we talked about it and it is much better than leaving today finding out something was wrong with her heart or otherwise. If this is the path God has chosen for us, we will follow it happily.

Andrew and I were going to attend a Baby Expo this weekend, but I just found out it has been postponed until 2009. So now we will probably just go look at different themes of bedding and all that so we can ease my nerves with all the different items out there! My parents have been so helpful giving us tips so I can calm down about what to buy or register for. I am still deciding about the baby shower. The doctor said I can fly up until 36 weeks, or mid-February. So, I guess I have a little more time than I thought to decide!

I am off to take a nap and then pick up our (blue) pak-n-play. These busy days are so tiring!
