~ Meet Brittney

Brittney and MikeHello from hot and humid Florida! I am Brittney (28) and my husband is Mike (29). I am a speech language pathologist in a pre-k and elementary school, and Mike has been in the Navy for the last 7 years and currently works as a water survival instructor in Pensacola. We were married February 16, 2008 in New Orleans, Louisiana. We have lived in Florida for two years now with our two cats, Tinkerbelle and Pyka, and our Ori-Pei puppy, Nola. I am an avid runner and have completed six full marathons, seven half marathons, and two triathlons in the past three years. I am planning on participating in the Nike Women's half marathon this October in San Francisco!

I grew up in a small town in Washington state. Mike grew up just across the Columbia River in Oregon. We met in August 1994 when I was 13 and Mike was almost 15. My dad and Mike's uncle worked together and the weekend we met was the annual company camp-out. We hit it off instantly and that summer was the one I will always remember as meeting my first, true love! Now, if you remember back to 1994, this was at a time when computers, internet, and cell phones were very new and very expensive, meaning no one I knew, including my family and Mike's, had access to these new-age devices! Mike and I dated for about seven months, hand-writing letters, running up the long distance phone bills, and begging our parents to drive us here and there for our "dates". In the spring of 1995, Mike and I broke up and went our separate ways.

Brittney and MikeFor the 12 years we were separated and had not had any contact with each other, Mike and I experienced some of life's very important events and lessons. Mike's mother passed away unexpectedly in 1996 while Mike and his brother were still in high school. Mike graduated from high school and went on to attend Oregon State University. A few years later, in 1999, I graduated high school and was preparing for college when my mother passed away suddenly in August. That fall, I moved to Seattle and attended University of Washington. I graduated in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing Science and then attended graduate school at Western Washington University where I graduated with my master's degree in Speech Language Pathology. Upon the events of September 11, Mike decided to change his focus and join the military to fight for his country and complete his degree while in the service (Mike just graduated this past spring with a bachelor's degree in Professional Aeronautics!).

Fast forward to 2007 and the wonderful world of computers, internet, and social networking websites! Over the 12 years Mike and I had not been in contact, I never stopped thinking about him and wondering what ever happened to him. I'd tried his old phone number and address with no luck. A friend of mine was a member of Myspace and we decided to look up old friends. Low and behold, I searched for Mike, and after 12 years, there he was, finally! We began talking again immediately and about five months later, Mike flew me out to Pensacola so we could officially reunite face to face! After six days together, Mike proposed on September 19th just as I was returning home to Washington. I accepted and three months later moved from Seattle to Pensacola so that we could start our lives together, again! The rest is history!

UltrasoundWe are ecstatic about the pregnancy and birth of our first child! It was unexpected but we couldn't have been happier! We found out that I was pregnant on Cinco de Mayo, what a way to celebrate! I was using the Fertility Awareness Method of birth control which I must say is wonderful and works great . . . if you follow the "rules"! Mike and I just happened to knowingly break the rules one month and turns out, everything worked like it was supposed to and we conceived! Our baby is due January 11, 2010.
