~ Am I really pregnant again?
Is it true that I am pregnant again so soon? I have a lot of mixed emotions at being pregnant again. While I do want to have a baby, I just don't know that my husband and I were emotionally ready this soon. I'm a little disappointed that this baby is due the same month Baylee was born last year; it will bring back so much pain when the time comes. However, I also cannot help but be excited, although I'm trying not to get my hopes up just yet.
I began getting suspicious when I got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom every day for the last week. I usually sleep all night without having to get up, except for when I was pregnant; then I was making bathroom trips at least twice every night.
I ended up buying one of the pregnancy tests that can detect your pregnancy early and tested two days early. As soon as I saw the faintest little line, I immediately began altering my diet to get my Blood Glucose numbers as perfect as possible.
As it turns out, I was most likely not a Gestational Diabetic, but am in the very early stages of Type 2 diabetes since my numbers didn't go back to what they consider normal once the pregnancy was over. So far my Blood Sugars aren't outrageously high after a HIGH-carbohydrate meal (usually in the 120-140 range), but that still isn't what a non-diabetic's Blood Sugars would be. While the doctors have no guarantee of what caused my baby girl's heart defect, they believe the diabetes may have been a factor. Since it wasn't discovered until well into the pregnancy, I was completely unaware there was even an issue as diabetes does not run in my family.
I was very diligent during the last trimester of my pregnancy when I found out about the Diabetes, but I'll admit that I wasn't perfect with my numbers once I gave birth or prior to finding out I was pregnant again as I wasn't expecting this pregnancy. I hope this time around with as much as I now know about diabetes that I am giving this pregnancy the best possible outcome (hopefully I'm not already too late).
Once I took another test for confirmation the day after my missed period, I called my OB to schedule an appointment to get me in as soon as possible as I don't want to leave anything to chance. If I need to go on insulin this early, then so be it; I just don't enjoy those daily shots three times a day.
So far I'm not having any other pregnancy symptoms (aside from frequent bathroom trips) not even sore breasts, but I'm sure that is still to come so stay tuned . . .
