Hello everyone! My name is Heather, and I am 24 years old. My husband, Steve, is 26. We are expecting our first child on (or sometime near!) August 19, 2002.
I have my bachelor's degree in Restaurant and Resort Management. After working in hotels for several years, I have made a career change, and now work at an accounting software company. I plan on being a stay-at-home mom after the baby is born (although I still have to figure out how to break the news to my boss!). However, my mom and I are Pampered Chef consultants, so I will continue to work at that. My parents own a bed and breakfast, so I will also continue to help in the operation and management of their business after the baby is born.
Steve is a Journeyman Electrician, and he hopes to become a Master Electrician by the time the baby is born. Steve wants to start his own electrical company as soon as possible. He enjoys the outdoors and loves to hunt and fish. We love to go camping together, and can't wait to introduce our child to the great outdoors.
Our second anniversary is April 22, 2002. Steve proposed to me on an elk hunting trip (how romantic!) and we were married six months later. I was a soccer coach for 1 1/2 years when I was in college, and I had my entire soccer team in our wedding as flower girls. My husband was thrilled to have nine 10-year olds in our wedding! We had our wedding reception at the country-dance bar where we met.
Steve and I bought our first home one year ago, and we love it! We live in the mountains in Colorado. We have a small house on 2 1/2 acres that we share with our two dogs and one cat. Our dogs are our first "kids" and we are excited to introduce them to their new "little" brother or sister.
This is my first pregnancy, and it was a surprise to get pregnant right away! We were going to wait to have kids until we were financially secure and had paid off all of our debt - but we would have waited forever! We decided to start trying last November, and got pregnant the first month trying! I have had an uneventful pregnancy so far, but I have suffered from horrible morning (actually, all day!) sickness.
We have chosen a midwife practice to provide pre-natal and delivery care. There are three midwives in the practice and we have met all of them. They are wonderful! I went to my first pre-natal visit with a long list of questions and they answered every one without making me feel like I was stupid. We are in full agreement with their methodology and beliefs. They will deliver our baby at the hospital, which makes me very comfortable. I like the fact that they treat pregnancy as a natural thing and not a medical condition that needs to be "treated"!
I look forward to sharing the next 22 (more or less!) weeks with you!
