We heard the baby's heartbeat! I was not looking forward to the whole "exam," but the midwife knows how awful that part is, so she started with the baby's heartbeat. We spent 1-1/2 hours with the midwife, and the exam only took about 30 minutes. It was wonderful to be able to ask every single question that I wanted to, and not feel rushed. I had some silly questions (Can I take a bath?) and some serious ones too (Can I drink herbal tea?), and she answered each one without making me feel stupid. Steve was uncomfortable to stay in the room during the exam, but I made him stay, because I didn't want the first time he saw an exam to be when I am in labor! It was awesome to have him there when we heard the heartbeat. It was at 170 beats per minute, which the midwife said was normal for that stage. I had lost about 10 pounds since I got pregnant, but the midwife is not concerned, as I started out my pregnancy a little overweight.
