Only four more days to go - my last day of work is August 9! Time is passing by so quickly. I'm not really afraid of the birth - just of being a parent! I'm 25, but for some reason I feel really young! This pregnancy has really been pretty easy - maybe the baby will give us all the trouble after he/she is born.
We had a checkup last Thursday and everything is fine. I was pleased to learn that the midwives don't check my "progress" every week. They said that it really doesn't benefit them (I could stay at 50% effaced for a week, or I could dilate 2 cm overnight), and the only reason they would check is if I am curious. And I am NOT that curious. Steve's birthday is on the 14th, so I might have them check then - we'll see.
I was able to talk to the midwife about the Group B Strep thing, and she really reassured me. I was trying to figure out how I "caught" the infection. But they reassured me that it is something that is part of my normal flora, and it is not anything I "caught" (I was ready to start carrying antibacterial wipes around everywhere!). My only disappointment is that I won't be able to use the jacuzzi tub while I am in labor - but I can still use the shower.
I have been having some pretty strong Braxton Hicks contractions, and Steve has been urging me to have the baby soon. Steve is very ready for the baby to be born - he is looking forward to his two weeks of vacation! We had another relaxing weekend, which was wonderful. I know things are going to get pretty crazy, pretty quickly.
I am trying to prepare for breastfeeding (not that there's a whole lot I can do). I think my mom and my sister will really help me out. I have read a bunch of books, so I feel pretty ready - except for the cracked nipples part! I am going to try to keep an open mind and realize that it may be hard the first few weeks. I'm just going to look for my family and friends for encouragement.
Thanks to everyone who emailed me about their Group B Strep experiences - it's nice to know I'm not the only one!
