Week 40 ~ August 21, 2002
Well, I'm officially 2 days overdue. When I was first pregnant, I told Steve that we will wait until this baby decides to be born and that I would NOT be induced. Now that I'm two days late, I want to beg the midwives to induce me! It has nothing to do with being pregnant (I LOVE being pregnant), but I so want to meet this little one! I have a checkup tomorrow, so maybe things will have progressed.
At our checkup last Wednesday, I was 70% effaced and a fingertip dilated. So I guess that is good, since I am progressing. I thought for sure that last Thursday was "it." I was having contractions about 10 minutes apart for about 3 hours (but the contractions didn't hurt at all). Steve and I were so excited, but I told Steve that I wanted to lay down to see if the contractions continued. Well, you guessed it, they stopped. We were so disappointed Friday morning. I called the midwife to see if it was "false labor" and she said it was just "preparation contractions" and that the "real ones" will most likely be painful.
I had an embarrassing moment on the way back from town this weekend. I had to pee so bad, and we were in the middle of nowhere, halfway between the two gas stations on the way home. So I made Steve pull over to the side of the road. There weren't any bushes to "hide" in, so I opened the front and back doors of the car and turned off the car's dome light and squatted right there. Steve was giggling the whole time. But I tell you what, when a baby is pressing on your bladder, when you have to go, you HAVE to go!
The phone calls have started- the ones where people ask a silly question to have an excuse to call, but all they really want to know is if the baby has been born. My mom even called the hospital to see if I was admitted when Steve and I were late arriving to her house! I know everyone is just impatient, but don't they think I am the most impatient?!?!? So I changed our voicemail to let callers know that the baby has not been born yet, and that we will call when he/she is born! Most of the time, I am leaving the ringers off so that we don't have to answer the phone - and I plan on doing the same after the baby is born!
We're anxiously awaiting the birth of this little one!
