Week 18 ~ December 26, 2003
Steve passed his test! We are now officially the owners of Alef Electric. Steve has already bid his first job and will be starting it on Monday. The only down side is that he will not be able to travel to North Carolina with me to visit my sister when she adopts her twin boys. But we are so happy that things are going well. Now we just have to sustain the business! Steve feels very confident. We did go out to dinner for the first time in a LONG time to Texas Roadhouse.
Friday night was the first night of Hanukkah and my family came over to celebrate. It kind of turned into Christmas, in that we spent most of the night opening gifts, but that's ok. We never got around to lighting our menorah, as it was 11:00 pm by the time we finished opening gifts since Mom arrived late and everyone was tired and wanted to go home. But Steve and I have decided that next year will be different - we're not quite sure how we can discourage the gluttony of the gift-giving, but we will try.
Ethan had a slight fever Friday night, and by Saturday night, it was around 101. Steve and I went to an "adults-only" Hanukkah party, so my parents came over and babysat Ethan. I would have skipped the party, but my parents insisted that we go. Then Sunday, Steve went skiing with his family (this is the third year in a row I have missed out on skiing, but that's ok! ) and Ethan stayed sick, with his fever around 102. Overnight, his fever went up to 103.5, so Monday morning, I called the doctor and got Ethan in at 4 pm My mom watched him while I was at work, and she met me at the doctor's office where they diagnosed him with severe bilateral ear infections. I was so glad I didn't wait to take him in! We try to do everything natural with Ethan that we can, but sometimes, a doctor is needed! This is the first time that he has been really sick, and it was pretty scary. And Monday night, his fever hit its highest at 104.9. Steve and I stayed calm, but we gave him a tepid bath and got his fever lowered to 103 pretty fast. I know I have so many more nights with sick kids to look forward to!
This pregnancy still is uneventful. I feel like I haven't gained much weight. I was able to fit into my formal dress Saturday night and my belly only stuck out a little. And I loved all the extra cleavage I have! But Steve wasn't too fond of me showing it off! I still am not 100% sure that I am feeling the baby move. I had a dream last night that I could feel her (his?) little hand right through my belly. So maybe she (he?) was moving in my sleep and I was feeling it. I am not quite ready for the third trimester discomforts, but I am ready for some positive movement!
Have a Happy New Year!
