Week 40 ~ April 21, 2004
~ No Baby . . . Yet

Well, tomorrow (April 22nd) marks 40 weeks - and no baby, yet! I have had several "bouts" of regular contractions, but nothing has developed into true labor.

I had a checkup yesterday and I am 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. Unfortunately, that means nothing! I could go into labor any time, or walk around for the next 2 weeks just at 1 cm! But I had some bloody show on Friday and then again yesterday, so I am hoping it will be soon. It was pretty funny - Steve went with me to the midwife appointment, and he reminded me to ask about the bloody show. She asked if it could be from intercourse, and Steve and I looked at each other and laughed and said, "No!" It is pretty much the last thing on my mind right now but probably the first on Steve's. :

I keep wondering if perhaps we made a mistake on the gender. I made the quilt for the bassinet and a blanket for the baby from Ethan in "sex-specific" colors. Oh well, if we are wrong, I'll just make new ones. But I am pretty sure of what we saw.

Tomorrow is our anniversary, and I hate to say it, but I am kind of hoping the baby waits until Friday. I don't really mind sharing the date, but I would love for the baby to have their own special day. Steve and I are planning on going out to dinner - someone gave Steve a gift certificate for doing a "rush job" and we are going to use it to go out. It's for a pizza place, so I want to get HOT wings, SPICY pizza and a BIG chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream! Plus, it is supposed to snow here in Colorado tomorrow, so maybe the changing weather will put me into labor.

It seems like most labors start at night, and each morning that I wake up, having not gone into labor, I feel disappointed. I have described it as feeling like the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus hasn't come! Maybe the Easter Bunny will come tonight???

Patiently (or not so patiently) waiting for the birth of this child . . .
