The month of December just flew by! December was mostly a blur due to me being sick for most of the month. (I have been more sick with this pregnancy then I have ever been before, pregnant or not. I'm am already looking forward to meeting this little guy for more then one reason!) I can't believe that all the hustle and bustle of the holidays are over and we are on the other side. Whew! I was looking forward to 2014 ending, since it wasn't the best year ever, but 2015 isn't starting out all that great, either.
We had a nice Christmas, visiting the grandparents' houses, and then finally making our way home in the evening. I made the children their own bags this year (except for Samuel), to take with us when we go swimming or when they sleep over at my mother's house. I finished the last one about 20 minutes before we were to leave for the first house on Christmas Day, so they were able to take them with us and put their gifts in them to keep everything safe and sound. They were a hit!
However, that was the last of the "nice days". Nathaniel and Caleb spent most of the time we were at my mother's house sleeping on her couch, since they weren't feeling good. The next day, we were on our way to the swimming place, about 40 minutes south, and Malachi threw up all over himself. Then it was Damaris's turn and things went down hill from there. By Monday morning, all 10 of us were sick with either a fever, vomiting, or a nasty cold. Or all of the above. All 10 of us!! It was awful! Adam still isn't feeling normal, with his hacking and constant headache. Most of us are still coughing and blowing our noses. So the new year found us all laying around on the couches, shivering under the quilts, and us adults trying to keep our heads above water! My mother was a jewel and brought over pizza for supper on one of the worst days. I used to think that it would be better to have everyone sick at once and get it over with instead of it dragging on and on for weeks. Now I'm not so sure . . .
Baby Boy wasn't affected, though. He kept kicking and squirming right along, as he has no care in the world. Which he doesn't, so that was a good thing. I saw Dr. B December 23 and things are looking good. She broke her wrist in October and hasn't really been back into the office until that time, so it was good to see her (and not some other doctor, as I did in November with my ultrasound). I see her again this Wednesday, January 7, to attempt to see Mr. Whats-his-name's kidneys and spine, since he wasn't in much of a "show and tell" kind of mood last time. That's okay with me, though. I'll take another peek at him any day!
We have come to the conclusion that we are not going to pursue moving at this time. We are going to focus on our house and what needs to be done with it, along with paying off the mortgage faster. We were able to pay a large lump sum already, which brought our account to state that our next mortgage payment is due September 2015. We'll still pay it every week (we have it set up to do this automatically, to pay less interest and more on the principle) like we have for the past 4 years (which is when we re-financed with our current Credit Union). And when we have another large sum, we'll pay it then too. Our goal is to do these large lump sums about every 6 months and if we can do that, then we'll have this house paid off in about 4-5 years. In the mean time, we are starting the update of our kitchen. The new cabinets are already ordered, soon after they arrive our new flooring should be in, and we already bought a new refrigerator (it's one of the fridges on the top/freezer on the bottom models, with french doors at the top, and stainless steel. It was last year's model at The Home Depot on clearance, $600 off the retail price. Score!!). I'm looking forward to these new cabinets, for the ones that are in there now are older than our parents! They are not in horrible condition, especially considering their age (our house is over 100 years old), but some of them are broken and there is a serious lack of cupboard space and drawers. And counter space. We've done fine with them for the past 10 1/2 years, but it's time to upgrade. And, for the first time, we have the money to do so without something greater pressing. By the end of February, things should be done and all set up. I can't wait!!
That's about all from me tonight. I sure hope that you all are having a better start to your new year and I'll type at you later.
