Week 6 ~ First Doctor Appointment Yesterday I had my first OB appointment and was very excited, and a little nervous. I have been having very severe morning sickness, and I know that that is a good sign, so although I wasn't initially worried, as soon as I saw the ultrasound machine I was a little uneasy. She had told me that she wasn't expecting to see the heartbeat this soon. She said usually in week 7 you can see it. She made a point of saying "if we don't see it, that's normal, so don't worry." She was looking for the embryo and gestational sac. She did a pap smear first and then the ultrasound. As soon as the image popped up on the screen, I held my breath just waiting to see the sac. We saw it immediately and as she zoomed in, we saw the tiniest little beating heart! She was as surprised as we were. It was so exciting! Rob was with me and kept saying, "look! look!" whenever the camera zoomed in to the heart. He was like a little kid; it made me laugh. What a relief! ADVERTISEMENT After the ultrasound my doctor called me into her office to discuss any questions I might have (I just had silly ones like if I can color my hair and use self-tanning products). We discussed my morning sickness and she prescribed something called "Relief Bands". You wear them on your wrists and they emit pulses on your pressure points. They are also prescribed for chemotherapy patients that are having trouble with nausea. I don't know if they work yet because my pharmacy had to order them, but they should be in in a couple of days, thank God. She then brought up the subject of birth and wanted to know if I had made any decisions. Daisy was born via cesarean section, so I do have the option of choosing to do that again. However, my doctor feels I should consider going VBAC (Vaginal birth after Cesarean section). To be honest I was really thinking I would just go for another C-Section because I had a very scary birth experience with Daisy and don't wish to repeat it. Luckily I have a lot of time to think about it! My next appointment is June 12th. I will be 10 weeks then and we'll do another ultrasound, and the last ultrasound at week 20 when we will hopefully be able to see the gender.
