~ What a Week!
Well, I think the title of my entry says it all. Don't get me wrong, I love the holidays, but this year I had a week solid of all-day family/friend events and it totally wore me out. In fact, I was so exhausted that we ended up staying in for New Year's Eve, and were in bed by 10:30. I think I have finally kicked the cold I've been fighting though, although my energy levels are still way down. Aaron thinks that I should get my iron levels tested, but I eat a ton of red meat. Oh well, my next appointment isn't until the end of the month, so I can decide later if I'm still feeling so tired.
We finally told my family about the pregnancy this week, and their response was thoroughly disappointing. They just kind of shrugged and said, "yeah, we thought so." I'm not exactly sure how they "thought so" considering that they haven't seen me in 6 months and have hardly even spoken to me on the phone, but there you go. I'm sure they're just trying to protect themselves in case this one ends badly too, but it was still disappointing. Also, my aunt said that she wants to hold off my baby shower until after the baby is born, presumably for the same reason. I think I'm going to try and change her mind though. I don't want to seem ungrateful, but it will be much easier for me to take a 5-hour bus or train ride when I'm 8 months pregnant than it will with a one-month old.
I did have one very exciting thing happen on New Year's Eve, though. While I was sitting in bed reading I felt a little ping against my belly. And then another one an inch or so over. And then another. It took me a minute to realize it was the baby kicking me! So far, I had only felt a gurgle or two that might be the baby, but I'm pretty sure these were kicks. I was so surprised. I have an anterior placenta (it goes across the front of my belly) so I'd been warned I might not feel anything until 24 weeks or so, so it was a shock to feel it. I think it may have had to do with how I was sitting (with my knees up) because aside from the movements then (she kept going for about ten minutes or so) I haven't felt anything since. Still, it was very exciting.
The one other pregnancy related thing that happened this week was that I outgrew all of my bras and had to buy new ones. This is absolutely crazy. I didn't even know bras came in size E! I can't imagine what size I'll be into after the baby is born. One of the bras I bought was a nursing bra (I know it won't fit me later, but it fit me better than any of the others) and the other was just a regular one. But they were almost impossible to find in my size. I think I'll be spending half of May bra-shopping before the baby comes. Oh well, at least the baby will be well-fed.
Well, I think that is all for this week. Until next week,
