~ Backaches, and Cravings, and Naps, Oh My!
Well, I am officially in the third trimester, at least, according to my pregnancy symptoms. This week I have been struggling more with backaches - the wonderful, lower back, sciatic nerve pain that makes it difficult to walk. I have found, however, that sleeping with a pillow between my legs seems to alleviate it somewhat. I've also been finding the urge to nap irresistible. Every day around 1 or 2 in the afternoon I have to lie down for 2-3 hours! On the other hand, my energy levels haven't been too bad, aside from that. I am still walking the dog twice a day for about 30-40 minutes total, although stooping and scooping is getting a little tricky. I've also been using my energy to clean the house. I think I must be nesting, because suddenly I am obsessed with cleaning and noticing dirt in places that I never even knew existed! If this keeps up baby will be coming home to a very clean house.
My other new symptom is cravings for sweets. Mostly throughout the pregnancy I've been craving fruit or steak, but now all of a sudden I want chocolate. Every day. Sometimes I can get by with just drinking chocolate milk, but other days the craving is so strong I have to break down and eat an actual piece of chocolate (usually in the form of microwave s'mores - yum!). This week I also broke down and gave into a craving for cinnamon buns. I had been trying to get around it by buying cinnamon raisin bagels, but they just couldn't satisfy the craving, so I finally went out and bought a roll of Pillsbury Grands that were so good they didn't last 12 hours in our house. I swear, if I've gained 10 lbs by my next weigh-in I'll know why.
As far as my hemorrhoids go, it looks like the medication has done its job. However, I have 5 more refills on the prescription to be used when (not if) they come back. I managed to get away without using the Metamucil, opting instead to make some homemade carrot-bran muffins, but also had a rough day or two dealing with the results of consuming too much fibre. I think I've got things figured out now, though.
Baby Girl is still kicking away and shifting position regularly. It really depends on how she is lying to how hard her kicks and punches feel. When she is lying across my belly (her favourite position) they're much stronger than when she is vertical. I have also been feeling more hits to my internal organs this week (especially my bladder!).
We haven't made any more progress on her room since we put the furniture together. I need to swing by a craft store before I can finish the art I'm making for her walls, and I'm waiting until after my baby showers before we buy anything else. My goal is have the room done by the end of April, which still gives me a month before my due date.
Oh, one other fun thing Aaron and I decided to do was to start organizing a Pool to guess the baby's birthday. It's just among our close friends and family, and we're going to award a small prize to whoever wins. I've been getting teased because I picked June 2nd as my guess (the "official" due date is May 25th). It's not like I don't want her to come early, I just figure I won't be that lucky. On the other hand, hardly anyone has guessed an earlier date so far, and no one has picked a date more than a week early, so I'm clearly not the only one thinking she'll take her own sweet time.
Anyway, I think that that is all the news for this week. Until next week,
