Week 32
~ Weigh-In Disaster

Well, I should have known that all those cravings for sweet things would catch up with me sooner or later. Still, I am so disappointed with the results of my weigh-in on Monday. Are you ready for this? I gained 12 lbs in the last 6 weeks! That's double what I was supposed to have gained and accounts for half of my weight gain for the entire pregnancy! So much for my hopes of only gaining 25 lbs total, I'm already there and still have another 8 weeks of pregnancy to go. Oh well, I'm just going to have keep a closer eye on what I eat (wish me luck, I have two baby showers to attend the next two weekends in a row) and keep up with all my walking. Sigh. Well, hopefully breastfeeding will help me lose the weight after the baby comes.

The other thing that I learned at the doctor's was that the baby is in "launch position," although I don't know if she is anterior or posterior (I think I get an ultrasound in a few weeks to find out). I'm glad she's finally in the right position (she really loved lying transverse), but she seems to take up a lot more room this way. I seem to constantly have a leg or butt lodged under my ribs in the most uncomfortable way - she's not kicking me, just sitting there using my internal organs as cushions. Also, the doctor said that as of this week if I was to go into labour they would not try and stop it, but let it progress - which is a bit scary. It means we are finally approaching the end, and could have a baby any time (although I still doubt she'll come early, much as I would like a shorter pregnancy).

This week I also had my first baby shower, which was great. My aunt decorated everything with a blue Noah's Ark theme (no pink and lots of giraffes - how well she knows me). It was nice to see the family members that live far away, and good to catch up with them. We got lots and lots of clothes, but, surprisingly, hardly any receiving blankets (I keep being told we need lots of those). I thought it was funny, because at my cousin's shower everyone included a package of receiving blankets for her. Oh well, I still have one more shower, so hopefully I'll get some then.

We also got a chance to go through all the hand-me-downs my aunt sent. I can't believe how many clothes there are! The baby's dresser is already full, just with Newborn-sized clothes, and I have a bin each of 0-3 Months and 3-6 Months, not counting everything we got at the shower. I've already loaned a bunch to my next door neighbour for her newborn daughter, since she should be done with them by the time we need them. I am just overwhelmed by the amount of baby things now in the house, and I know we still need more.

In non-baby news this week, Aaron has just about finished the kitchen floor. He is currently cleaning the grout off the new tiles, and we should be able to move everything back in by tonight. I love the look of the new floors, and I'm glad they're done, but it's definitely been tricky living without a kitchen (or even with limited use of the kitchen). I can't wait to be able to cook real meals again.

Well, I suppose that is all for this week. Until next week,
~ Kaye
