~ April Showers Bring May . . . Babies?
Except for the last two days (which I've spent fighting a cold) I think that this has been the best week of my pregnancy so far. My friends got here last Friday night and we ordered in pizza and stayed up late hanging out and catching up. It was so much fun! I managed to stay up until 1 am, which is the latest I've managed to stay awake in 8 months (yeah, I was tired the next day, but it was worth it).
The next day we went out shopping in the morning and then I came back and had a nap while they set up for the shower. The shower was awesome! They had a series of fun games (I won the fill-in-the-blanks Nursery Rhyme game), and I didn't even mind the game where they made me (and only me) eat melted chocloate out of disposable diapers and try to guess the type of candy bar. It was a great afternoon and it really made me appreciate what great friends I have.
This week I also had a doctor's appointment which left me smiling for the rest of the day. First off, I didn't gain any weight (the doctor wasn't too happy about this, but I swear I ate normally, and after the excessive weight gain from the last appointment things were probably just evening themselves out). More excitingly, though, is that I found out that the baby has already dropped! That's right, this little one is getting ready to go. The doctor now figures that I won't make it to 40 weeks, and is guessing I'll have her in the next 3 - 4 weeks (and my doctor usually guesses on the conservative side). How crazy is that? He actually told me to go home and start nesting, to make sure my hospital bag was packed, and the freezer full of food. Needless to say, my hospital bag is now packed, my freezer and pantry are pretty well stocked and the baby's room is ready to go. We still have a few more things we need to buy (including diapers), but we plan to do that this weekend.
Since the appointment, I've been getting a fair number of Braxton Hicks - some have been pretty intense. Wednesday night I had four intense contractions in one hour, and was worried for a bit that labour was maybe starting, but then they stopped. As much as I want to be done with this pregnancy, I really hope that she can hold on until 37 weeks, so that she doesn't need extra hospital care (although by our math we should be in week 35 right now, it was an early ultrasound that pushed us back a week, so maybe she wouldn't be that premature after all). Aside from the Braxton Hicks (and this wretched cold) I've actually been feeling better since the baby dropped. I can breathe better, my ribs don't hurt anymore, my backache has pretty much disappeared, and I'm sleeping much sounder. Yeah, I have to go to the bathroom even more often (I didn't think this was actually possible), but otherwise I feel great. Before the cold hit I even had extra energy for walking and shopping and laundry!
I am just getting so excited to be done with being pregnant and to meet my little girl. I am continuing my Kegels and have started drinking Raspberry Leaf Tea to tone my uterus. I just want to be as ready as possible for labour once it starts. For now, though, all I can do is rest and try and kick this cold, and finish up getting the house ready for baby.
I am now on weekly doctor's appointments, so hopefully I'll have more news next week.
