Brighter (and Busier!) Days Ahead
I think I have a problem. Honestly, I don't know what's happening to me! Generally, I am a homebody. I hate being busy. I love hanging out at home with Randy and the kids. I love having nothing to do. Well . . . for some inexplicable reason everything I do right now is the complete opposite of this! Suddenly, I can't say no. I find myself signing up for activities as though someone has taken over my body and has control of my hands and mouth. Oh boy. It's going to be a busy spring. Thankfully on our list of "a million things to do" are only things that I want to do. I am truly enjoying all of the activities we are involved in. So let the madness begin . . .
We have been blessed today with beautiful spring-like weather. Owen and I decided to take the afternoon to have an adventure. Randy is off work since he has to work all weekend, so it has worked out perfectly. Owen has been studying groundhogs this week at preschool, so he and I took an adventure walk on a beautiful trail that runs along a nearby river. We were looking for groundhog boroughs, but found so much more. We investigated lots of different animal tracks. We were able to follow the tracks to different dens. We saw lots of nests in the trees around the river. We even found a few different patches of fur. It was a great bonding time for us. I love when I can spend time with any of my kids individually while doing something we both love.
This is a great time of year to get out and explore with your kids. For us, there is still plenty of snow on the ground and that makes a great way to see animal tracks. The leaves are all off the trees, leaving them bare and the nests easily visible. Of course, our boots and the bottoms of our pants were pretty wet when we were done, but it was totally worth it. It was certainly a good reminder to me that there is still a great big beautiful world out there!
I am still longing for those warmer spring days, but in the meantime, our family will try to make the best out of what we've got for now. I hope to get back to the river trail with the other kids soon. We did get to the zoo earlier this month, so I suppose we are actually making the best of it. No doubt there will be lots more snow in the next few months, but I am okay with that as long as the hope and promise of spring keeps getting closer. Besides that, I have lots and lots of activities to try and keep up with until then!
