This past week was supposed to be great, mainly because we were going to find out the gender on Tuesday. It was going to be such a great week that I wasn't even upset when the weekend was over and it was Monday. That's when things started to go bad. On Monday, I got a call from my OB's office. My ultrasound was scheduled in their office for 8:00 am. They said that because of my insurance, they couldn't do the ultrasound in their office. So we scheduled it for the same day at 4:00 at the hospital right across the street from where they're located. I was upset. I had everything worked out perfectly. So I contacted the person who was going to be watching my youngest three kids and asked if she could instead watch them all at 3:45. She said that was fine. I was worried about missing my oldest daughter's practice that day because it was a parents vs kids game that I really wanted to be there for. But my husband and I worked it out that if I was still getting my ultrasound, he would leave early and take her and play.
So Tuesday comes and I had a check up in the morning. The good news is that the babies are doing great! The midwife confirmed that my uterus is up to my ribs already, like I knew it was. I guess that's one of the downsides of being short. Their heart rates were 140 and 145. My blood pressure was a little bit high, 130/62, so I think I'm in for a repeat of high blood pressure, swelling and headaches like last time. For now, it's okay, but I do think it's going to be a problem later. The midwife asked if I had my ultrasound scheduled and I told her that I had it scheduled for later that day at the hospital. She didn't like that. She said she wanted me to be seen by Maternal Fetal Medicine since I was having twins. They tried to get me an appointment the same day but I knew they wouldn't have anything available. So now I'm scheduled for October 27 at 10:45. And to top it all off, the person who was going to watch my kids can't do it that day. I still don't know what I'm going to do about that. Hopefully, the gender update will come next week. I don't think I'll handle it well if they reschedule it again. I can't think of any reason why they would need to, but I didn't think that before, either.
And speaking of soccer, it's not a very good idea to play soccer when you're 18 weeks pregnant with twins and out of shape. I have been hurting for days. And I learned the importance of wearing shin guards after one of the girls kicked me hard in the shin. I've got a nice bruise there now. But I had a great time playing anyway and I think my daughter appreciated it. Even being pregnant, I think I was the best parent out there.
