~ Little J is Getting Bigger

Baby JMy baby boy is growing so fast. He went to the pediatrician and he said that he should be gaining a pound a month for his age. Well I guess he is making up for lost time because he has gained a little over 2 pounds in 1 month. He is still very small though. He is only in the third percentile in weight for his age. He's getting there though.

His head is in the 90th percentile but this is because of the hydrocephalus. He goes back to see the Neurosurgeon in February. They are going to put him in a helmet for a couple of months. His head is really misshapen from being in the hospital so long and lying on one side of his head.

As far as developing he's doing pretty well. He is holding his head up on his own more and he is constantly putting things in his mouth. His hands and mouth and eyes all work extremely well. We need to get him to roll over and to lift up on his arms when lying on his belly. He doesn't mind being on his belly. He just lays there and then he will go to sleep. He doesn't try. I don't know if it has anything to do with his leg though. He goes next week to see the orthopedic doctor so we will see what he says about fixing his leg. I hope it isn't too difficult.

They originally thought that he had a club foot and they were casting it to fix it. Well they had to take it off because his leg was swollen and they took x-rays and found that it isn't a club foot. His tibia bone is twisted. When asked how to fix it, the doctor said he didn't know because he had never seen this before so he had to do some research to figure this out. A doctor telling you they don't know how to fix it is not something a mother wants to hear. I am worried but I know he will be fine. He has come through so much in his short little life. He is a fighter but he is such a joyful baby.

His daddy gets him to giggle all the time by kissing under his neck but he won't do it for me. He just smiles at me and pulls my hair. He loves both of us. Although to be honest he loves anyone that will hold him. He doesn't care who it is.

He loves the water. I take him in the shower with me and he just closes his eyes and puts his head under the water. He loves it. Well I think he likes the warm water a little too much. The other day when I was changing his diaper he peed all over his face and just laid there and closed his eyes and was smiling. He is so funny sometimes.

I have him in daycare and I really like this daycare. They are wonderful with him but there are a few things bothering me. First I drop him off in the morning and by the time I pick him up he is in a different outfit. This isn't occasionally but every day. So I have been asking about it and she will tell me where there is a little spot on that one. I couldn't even see the spot she had to point it out and it was just a little tiny bit of throw up. Not a big spot but a really tiny one. She doesn't have to do his laundry; I do and it is getting to be a bit much. I can't see changing his outfit all the time. So now I started sending two outfits and what do you know? Now he goes through both those outfits and the one he had on. Three outfits in one day in a matter of about nine hours? I don't get it.

The second thing that bothers me is that they hold him all the time. They love him and I'm glad but when he takes a nap, instead of laying him down in the crib or in the bassinet, they hold him. Now, he won't sleep in his crib. He wants to be held all the time. I can't do this. I have told them about it and they say when they lay him down he starts crying so they pick him back up. When you lay him down though, after a little while he stops crying and goes to sleep--at least he used to until they started holding him all the time. I just don't know what to do. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

This past week I was taking the baby out of the car and my foot slipped off the curb so I sprained my ankle. I went to the doctor and they put me on crutches and an air cast. Well then my toes were numb so they sent me to see an orthopedic surgeon. I tore a ligament in my ankle. It is swollen and all black and blue. He gave me a different brace for my ankle so now I can walk without the crutches because it gives my ankle a lot more support but I have to go to physical therapy three times a week.

That's it for this time. I will let you all know how his appointments go. Take care and God Bless.
