~ Girls Weekend 2011
Funny how alike two little babies can be in the womb. Sophie was a kicker and flipper and New Baby is no different. Also, when we went to see her sweet face at a 3d ultrasound all we could see was my youngest daughter's shapely legs, which were right in front of her face! So, we will just have to be patient and wait to see what she looks like until she gets here in a few more weeks.
Sophie has been doing pretty good. We had a small stomach bug a few weeks ago that she and her daddy both got, but luckily, mommy stayed safe from it. Which surprised me because with Sophie, when my eighth month of pregnancy began, I got sick several times and was completely miserable for about a month! So, this time, as soon as sick daddy left the house, I broke out the Clorox wipes and wiped everything down that was in my sight. I have never been a germophobe, but the fact that I now have an 18 month old to take care of whether I am sick or not, just really made me want to prevent this one.
I went on a girls' weekend a few weeks back and that was so nice. It was my first time away from my 18 month old, which was hard for me to believe, but also much needed. There is just something so nice about being with the girls and knowing this the little girl was safe and happy with her daddy at Grandma and Grandpa's house with her grandparents, aunts and cousins. Some friends and I went up to a chalet in Asheville for the weekend, which was so nice. I got to soak my feet in the hot tub and it felt great! On Saturday morning, we all took our time eating breakfast and then had lunch at a nice little restaurant downtown called the Green Sage. I had an avocado BLT, which I would recommend to anyone on earth! It was so good and everybody was full and happy leaving for the spa that afternoon. I had a pedicure and almost fell asleep during that and then an hour prenatal massage, which I have never had when pregnant, but felt sooooo good. The place where we were was full of neat little shops, so we split into two groups and three went shopping while the other three stayed at the spa and went swimming for a little while. I started feeling achey, as I do when I get massages, and that brought on the feeling that I just wanted to sit down. Then I started missing my family and got a little down, so we went back the chalet and had some dinner together. My friend for the past 20 years was there and she sat in the hot tub, while I soaked my feet and we had a good girl talk. When we came upstairs to "watch a movie," they had gifts and cupcakes and a whole little secret shower for me and New Baby! It was so nice and thoughtful and I love each and every one of them!
It was so nice getting to just be one of the girls again for the weekend and not being mommy on duty. I think her daddy appreciates what I do day to day a little more than he did before. As nice as it was being away from that side of my life, there was nothing better than seeing my little girl and her daddy on Sunday morning. She was a little hesitant with me at first, which broke my heart just a little bit, but she warmed up pretty quickly when I bribed her with some fruit salad we had leftover from breakfast.
I encourage every mother that needs a little break from changing diapers, wiping bottoms and making befus (to Sophie every meal is breakfast) to schedule some time for a girls weekend. It was so nice to be with a bunch of women that understand what my day to day is like. You can be a good mother and still keep your sanity. Trust me!
