As I mentioned in my last entry, I had a schedule doctor appointment this week. My doctor is in Kenya on a sabbatical, so I knew that I would not be seeing him. He does this every year about this time and goes to other counties to assist in their medical care. He offers his services free to the people of the country and tries to help them establish health care routines.
Anyway, I expected to have to have my missed pap smear done so I arranged for the kids to go to grandma's. When I got in the room I asked the nurse if I needed to undress completely and she said no. We're just doing a belly check today. So I was a bit confused. As it turned out, my doctor decided to just wait until my 6-week post natal visit to do my pap. Fine by me. So instead, I got to have a regular prenatal check-up done.
My doctor's nurse came in and put the Doppler on my belly. You could hear the nice strong heart beating away. If I had known I wasn't having the pap done, I would have brought the kids. They love to hear the baby's heartbeat. It was beating away at 148 beats per minute. Every time I hear it, I just get a big smile.
Then she felt around on my tummy to try and figure out which was the baby was lying. She also asked me if I was feeling lots of movement, which I told her that I was . . . mostly on my right side. As far as she could tell, baby is laying with his head towards my right hip and his feet towards my left. That surprised me a bit given where I was feeling all of the bumps.
She also said that he should be somewhere around 2 lbs to 3 lbs. No wonder the bumps and jabs are so much stronger than they were a few weeks ago. Guess that is why I also gained another 3 lbs in the last month. Still, not too bad. Puts my total weight gain at 15 lbs. I'm happy with that.
Next week, we are leaving for a little impromptu trip to Disneyland to take the kids on a bit of a summer vacation. I won't really be able to do much, but I wasn't going to miss this experience since it is their first time as well as my husband's. So, my journal entry will probably be late since we will be out of town. I am so excited though and can't wait to take a ton of pictures.
Until next time . . . hugs and belly rubs!
