This week we took our trip to Disneyland! It was so much fun!
Although it was a short trip, only four days, the kids were so excited to go, as were we. This ended up being a whole family trip. It was my husband, our kids, my mom, sister and her family and myself. In all, there were ten of us. What a group!
From where we live, it's only about a five-hour drive to get there, so we decided to leave really early on Thursday morning. Our hope was to get into Anaheim before the really bad rush hour traffic. We also wanted to be there early enough to hit the beach Thursday afternoon. We left our house at about 5:15am and arrived there right about 1pm and that included stopping for breakfast.
We got checked into our room and then got changed for the beach. Both my husband and I just LOVE the beach. This was going to be the second time for him and our kids to be able to enjoy the beach. I used to live in California (both northern and southern) so I have spent lots of time on the sand. It was a nice sunny afternoon, so we got changed, grabbed a bite of lunch and headed out. We spent about two hours playing in the water and the sand. The water was chilly, but the kids just had a blast, as did my husband. I spent most of my time taking pictures, a huge hobby of mine.
That evening we had a nice dinner at Bubba Gump's (you know, from the movie Forrest Gump) and just enjoyed hanging out. My sister and her family weren't arriving until late Thursday night as they had to work that day, so we planned on doing Disney and California Adventure on Friday and Saturday. We headed back to the hotel after dinner and settled in for the night with the excitement of the following day.
Friday and Saturday were spent at the parks. I don't think the kids knew what to make of it all. They have never really been to a "theme" park before and didn't quite know what to do. I didn't think they'd be able to ride that many rides in the main park due to height restrictions but to my surprise there were very few they weren't tall enough for. As for rides for me . . . I was pretty limited. I could only ride some of the kiddie rides and things like Pirates of the Caribbean that were easy going. I didn't mind though. I have been to Disneyland several times, so for me this was all for my kids and my husband. It also gave me an opportunity to take lots of pictures of my family having fun.
We pretty much spent all of Friday just at Disneyland. I expected it to be really busy, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. Most rides were about a half hour wait, which was tolerable. Saturday we did Disney in the morning and California Adventure in the afternoon. Disney was really busy on Saturday and most rides were at least an hour wait. However, California Adventure was not near as bad and most waits were 20 minutes or less. We also wanted to end up in California Adventure by evening time so we could watch the light parade. Again, most of the rides the kids could ride and they had a blast.
By Saturday, I found myself having to sit a bit more than Friday. That is a LOT of walking for a pregnant lady. But, I was pretty proud of myself. I thought I was a trooper. I rode every ride that I was allowed to ride so that I could enjoy them with my kids. The ones I couldn't ride I took the opportunity to sit and rest and take pictures.
My biggest surprise is that I didn't get big huge swollen ankles, which I expected. I made sure to drink lots of water and try not to overdo it. I didn't get any swelling until Sunday on the drive home. I guess sitting in the car for all that time kind of did them in. The swelling didn't go down for 3 days, but is finally gone now.
Overall, we had such a good time. It was nice to be able to take a family vacation with everyone. My sister just got married this past April, so this was a first for us. All the kids (for the most part) behaved really well. I was especially proud of how well my kids did. We had explained to them prior to going how it was really important that they listened and followed directions and they did a beautiful job. We did bring a stroller for them so when it was really crowded they were safe and also to give them a place to rest. Not only is it a lot of walking for a pregnant lady, but also for 5 year olds.
We are back home now and just trying to stay cool. Our temps here and been really high so going outside just isn't really an option. We have to find indoor things to do.
As for this little one . . . he did good. We are now at the point where he is moving around all of the time and my belly does jumps and flips that we all get to witness from the outside. I love this part of pregnancy. Hard to believe I only have about 12 weeks left. At my next OB appointment, they should be giving me the date for my c-section . . . OH MY GOSH!
I've posted a few photos for you all; hope you enjoy.
Until next time . . . hugs and belly rubs!
