Week 28 ~ May 20, 2003
~ This is getting a little harder!
Well, the aches and pains of the third trimester are setting in. My back hurts by the end of the day, and my legs feel really tired. Bending over to pick things up off the floor is getting almost impossible; I can't bend my torso over this bulge in my belly! Having a two-year-old, I tend to sit on the floor a lot to tie shoes, fix hair, play, or whatever. To get up from that position, I get on all fours, then kneel, and then hold on to something to push myself up. Whew! My muscles get a workout every day just by doing normal activities with a several-pound extra weight in my belly .
At night, I am having a harder and harder time getting comfortable in bed. I am basically confined to my left side; I feel like a weight is on my abdomen if I lie on my back, and I can't breathe as well on my right side. So after a while in that position I want to shift a little bit, but there's not any other position to go to! Then my legs begin to get restless, and then I'm tossing and turning for a couple of hours. My poor husband always starts out in our bed but is driven to the guest room after about a half hour of my squirming. I don't think it's going to get much better as I get closer to the end. I'm only getting bigger.
And I'm getting more tired. Karl and I cleaned out our garage this week, which left me feeling like I'd been hit by a truck. I really overdid it. After a couple of hours of lifting and sweeping, I got the hint from my body that it was a bad idea, so I tried to find easier tasks like sitting on the ground and sorting the pile of glass and aluminum for recycling. After that I didn't feel like getting up so I sat on the ground and made labels from pieces of tape and a magic marker for every shelf in our garage. We now have a tool shelf, a rope shelf, a car shelf, a terra cotta pot shelf--all nicely labeled. By that point, sitting on the ground with a magic marker was just about my speed. After that I went to bed!
So, that's the main news concerning my pregnancy. No more suspected fluid leakages. I noticed a few Braxton-Hicks contractions here and there, but my doctor told me not to worry about them unless they come at regular intervals. I'll be visiting the doctor every two weeks now.
And the baby is moving and kicking quite a bit now!
