Melissa's Pregnancy Journal

~ Meet Melissa

Hi, my name is Melissa, I am 23 years old and I'm really glad I have this opportunity to write a journal for StorkNet. First I thought I'd tell you a little bit about my family. My husband Chris and I met about nine years ago. I was 14 and he was 15. I consider him my "high school sweetheart" even though we went to separate schools and have taken some short breaks in between our transitions. We found that as we grew older and we matured a bit we couldn't see our lives without each other.

At the time we met he was my parents' worst nightmare. He drove a Trans Am to my parents' house (no license at 15!) and had had a rough start with his family. We've been through so much together and we've had our ups and downs. But I thank God everyday that we are together. Chris really is my heart and my happiness.

The rest of my family is really my rock and I couldn't introduce who I am without talking about them. I have my two lovely parents and my two sisters and brother. With their love and support I've grown into who I am today. I have always been a home-body and couldn't really stay away from my family and from Chris. I dreaded going away to college and spent most of my time traveling back and forth from school to home. (I spent only one weekend on campus!). My senior year in college Chris and I moved into our first apartment and then bought our first home last spring before I even graduated.

I graduated with a Family Studies/Elementary Ed. Degree but in our state most teachers are required to have years of teaching experience and a Master's degree. I wasn't sure I really wanted to teach so I decided to wait with the Master's degree. I currently work in Marketing (I know, a completely opposite career path!) but I plan on going back to teaching once the baby is born.

Our pregnancy wasn't planned, although we really do consider it a blessing for many reasons. We had been told early on that our chances of someday having children were very slim. So this was a surprise, but a welcome one. It was difficult news at first. We had been planning our wedding for this coming summer on July 1, 2006 but we were married instead this past winter on January 14th. We are so excited to start our family and to introduce our little one to our loving families. I cannot thank my parents enough for everything they have done for Chris and I, and for their unconditional love. Thanks for sharing in on our journey as we grow from a couple to a family of 3!
