Michelle's Pregnancy Journal

Week 11
~ Heartbeat!

I had my eleven week appointment and it went well. I lost another three pounds putting my total loss for this pregnancy at five and a half pounds. Again I'm not worried. I did the same with Tommy and I'm sure I'll put the weight back on at the end. The OB couldn't find the baby's heartbeat by Doppler so he immediately brought in the ultrasound machine and found it right away. He did an external ultrasound instead of a transvaginal like I had had earlier and at this stage with Tommy. It was really cloudy, and I couldn't make anything out. He pointed out the face which I couldn't see, so he traced it. I hadn't realized it was a profile, and even after he pointed it out I couldn't really see it, just the head. But then I saw the arms too, up on either side. The baby was completely still, but there was a heartbeat. When I saw Tommy at this age he was turning somersaults, but the doc said not to worry. Sometimes babies pose in one position for hours at a time! That was pretty much it for the appointment. I'm not going to ask him any questions, and he isn't the type to volunteer information so I'll just see him again in four more weeks.

The rest of the week was pretty uneventful. I am still having morning sickness and still have horribly sore nipples when I nurse. I'm back to nursing Tommy on demand, but he isn't demanding as often as he used to. I've been really tired and not up to doing much so I've spent a lot of time lazing in bed resting while Tommy climbs all over me. Then he will finally take a nap and I won't be able to get to sleep, but I'll be even more tired by the time he wakes up!

So all this doing nothing makes for a pretty boring, and short journal entry for this week! Things will hopefully pick up next week. I have my midwife appointment later today and am really excited to ask her all the questions I have, and my sister is visiting for a long weekend! I can't wait to see her. The last time I saw her was when we both went to visit our parents around Mother's Day last year. Tommy was just 10 months old so I don't know if he will remember her. He adored her then so hopefully he'll pick up where he left off!
