Week 20
~ Midwives and VBACs

There hasn't been too much excitement here compared to in the last weeks. I still say I'm in the boring part of pregnancy. It's too early to get excited about the baby coming and the kicks have gotten old already. I guess some people think I'm weird, but as much as I enjoy the kicks because they make me confident that the baby is fine, they also annoy me because they are always in the wrong place, usually my bladder or full stomach, or they keep me awake.

I had my midwife appointment this week and the more I see her the more I love her! It is so nice to feel respected and at ease and have all the time in the world to talk with your care provider. I actually had never asked her VBAC percentage so I did this time. She didn't know her exact number, but she said in four years they have only had one VBAC attempt end up in a cesarean! She and the OB she works with have had 24-26 successful VBACs she would guess! Most VBAC proponents say that a care provider should have a rate of sixty to seventy percent. My midwife and her OB partner definitely have a good rate!

She then relayed the story of a VBAC just a few weeks ago. The mother came to her at 38 weeks asking if she could switch her care to her. She was with an OB for a few months after moving to the area at the end of her second trimester. She just realized that the OB wasn't going to give her the opportunity to have the kind of birth she wanted so she decided to switch her care (I love hearing about women like this. I always tell people it's never too late to switch!). Before she even saw my midwife she called her in desperation from the hospital because she was about to be induced due to one dip during a non-stress test! She stuck it out for the six hours in the hospital that she was forced to stay and then went straight to the midwife and a few days later had a very easy labor and delivery and her VBAC baby who was close to a pound bigger than her c-section! Seeing the enthusiasm and excitement my midwife had while relaying this story just made my day!

I also asked if she delivered breech babies. She does provided that the head is in the right position as well. She will deliver all kinds of breeches and has never had problems. I get the impression that she is careful, but not overly cautious about most things.

Other than that nothing exciting has been happening around here. We've started the search for a new place. Our lease on the condo we are renting is up May 31 and we're finding a lot of dumps and closets. We really want to rent a house so Tommy can have a yard to run around in. We have a few prospects, but there are a lot of applicants on each one and we're still waiting to hear back. We have the added stress of getting our place cleaned up and organized for our move and keeping everything nice and clean for prospective tenants. So I've been pretty busy this week.
