Week 26
~ Moving and Cleaning

My sugars are still looking good this week so far and I dread going back to that nutritionist. When I left the appointment last week I had made appointments for the next two weeks and next week I couldn't schedule it with this same dietician so I had to schedule with another in the group. I figure I'll see this new one next week and just cancel this week's appointment. My appointment was for 11:30 am and since I'm now staying down at the new house (sleeping on the fold-down dinette in my parents RV while Tom stays at the old place which has the easier commute) it will be a lost day to drive all the way up there in the middle of the day then back here again. We have a lot more work to do on this place and we still have a ton of packing at the old place! This house is much dirtier than I had initially thought. I have shampooed the carpets in each room at least a dozen times and the water is still coming up brown. I shampoo then do a vinegar rinse to cut out the soap then do several plain water rinses and then another shampoo when all the soap is gone. We're just going to do plain water over the next several days until the furniture arrives and I hope after that with cleanings every month or two maybe the areas not covered in furniture will be almost clean by the time we move out of here! I'm very glad that we invested in our own steam vacuum last year! I shudder to think that my babies would have been crawling around and trying to eat off these filthy carpets! All the cabinets and even the walls are giving us black water in our wash bucket. I didn't know that a house could have this much dirt! We're planning on doing a bug bomb in the back large room to get rid of the ants. There are hills all along the inside of the walls and we discovered there are several trails under the carpet as well. There are also a ton of earwigs in the moister areas of the house. Hopefully the bomb will take care of it. We got one that isn't as toxic as some and we're setting it off at night before we move in. Then we'll work at the old place the whole next day while the house airs out.

The movers have been hired and will arrive next Tuesday. We are planning on making several trips between now and then to move our boxes. We'll just leave the heavy book boxes (Tom has quite the book collection!) and the furniture for the movers. When Tom and I moved in three years ago he insisted we hire someone to move us out. I think it had something to do with all the bookcases that didn't fit in the elevator, or perhaps it was when we were carrying the couch up those three flights of stairs and it got jammed! Since then we have purchased an entertainment center that doesn't fit in the elevator (it's a very small elevator with a low ceiling) and a California king sized canopy bed that doesn't come close to fitting! We went with a moving company that just does the hauling work. We rent the truck and we pack and they just provide the muscle. Their price was much better than any other place, and besides we wanted to do the packing ourselves anyway.

So that is my life right now, packing and moving! I still hate this gestational diabetes diet as it makes me feel nauseous, and I'm missing my fruits and vegetables. I'm finding it very hard to stomach all the food I have to eat in the morning. I'm not a big fan of breakfast foods in the first place. I despise toast and English muffins and I'm mildly allergic to eggs and have a hard time eating them on an empty stomach. Some days I force down an English muffin with peanut butter to get my protein and carbohydrate, but that gives me too much reflux so more often I'll have an English muffin with butter and then I'll gag down an ounce of cheese. Other times I forget the protein and it doesn't seem to affect my sugar too much. My sugars have been a little high these past few days, but I think it is due to my lack of exercise. I sprained my ankle as I was stepping into the street to put one of my large redwood planter boxes into my trunk. It didn't hurt much at first and I kept off it, but by the end of the day it was quite painful. The next day I let mom do the steam cleaning while I sat on the floor and a chair and scrubbed walls. It is feeling better already today, just a little sore if I am on it a lot.
