Michele's Pregnancy Journal

~ Meet Michele

engagementHello readers!

My name is Michele and I'm really excited to have the chance to share my pregnancy with you. I am 27 years old. My husband is Justin (he's 26) and I have a 7-year-old named Cody. Justin and I are expecting our first baby together sometime around the end of October/beginning of November (with an official due date of November 3).

I'll start with Cody. I got pregnant with him during my second-to-last semester of college. I went to school to get an Associate's Degree in Advertising and Graphic Design. I found out I was pregnant (surprise!) with him during the break in between my second-to-last and last semesters, and I was 6 months pregnant with him when I graduated from college. He was born on March 18, 2003. Though his dad and I dated on and off for about a year after his birth, we were simply not meant to be with each other, and are both now happily married to other people (ironically, he and his wife are now expecting their first baby together, and are due just 2 months after me... Cody gets two brand new siblings in one year!)

weddingJustin and I actually met for the first time in the fall of 2006. I had gone to a birthday party at a restaurant for someone I didn't know very well, but I had gone with my roommate who was much closer to birthday boy than I was. As I was leaving for the night, I went over to that table to say goodbye to those still there, and a guy I had never seen before stood up from the table, walked over to me, and embraced me in a massive bear hug. I remember being completely buried in his chest and thinking, "Who is this faux-hawked, pierced guy hugging me??" I like to remember that moment, and wonder what I would have thought if someone had frozen it and told me I was going to marry that guy and have his babies. I would so not have believed them...

weddingAs it turned out, Justin was (and still is!) a huge hugger. He didn't know who I was either, but I guess to him, it seemed like a good opportunity to hug someone. We met a bit more formally when I joined the band at the church we both went to the following January. He played bass for the band already and I sing, so I joined to be a vocalist. We got to know each other better and better over time, but we were just friends. He had a girlfriend and I honestly had no interest in dating him. By the following fall (2007) we had gotten really close -- best friend close. Things didn't work out between him and his girlfriend, and by spring 2008 we were literally hanging out ALL the time. By then, we knew we were supposed to get married. My attraction to him was overwhelming at that point, and he'd been crushing on me for a good long while. But we'd always just been friends -- I'd never even kissed him! We had gotten to know each other so well that we had unexpectedly fallen head-over-heels in love with each other. When his father passed away quickly and unexpectedly in June 2008, I rushed up to be with him and by the end of that weekend, he was absolutely convinced I was the "one."

Pregnancy testsWe began dating the week after, and by September he'd asked my dad for my hand in marriage. He proposed to me on November 22, 2008, under a wisteria arbor. We were married the following September 5, after a 9-month engagement.

ultrasoundWe decided not to wait too terribly long to begin having kids. Cody was 6 at our wedding (and made the most handsome ringbearer one could possibly imagine!) and would be 7 in March, so by January 2010 we had decided we'd start trying to conceive beginning on February 1. It worked -- I took a positive pregnancy test on February 22! Everyone is thrilled -- our parents, family, friends, and especially Cody. He can't wait to teach the baby to play Mario Kart. We've already seen the baby on ultrasound and heard its heartbeat, and are really excited to meet our new little one this fall.

I look forward to having you on this thrill ride with us -- strap in and enjoy!
